The Environmental Protection Agency will allow states to set their own emission standards for coal-fueled power plants, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday. Critics say the decision will result in much more carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere.The Journal reported that acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler signed a proposal that calls for states to regulate emissions from power plants, undoing a move from President Barack Obama that made those emissions regulated by the federal government for the first time."The entire Obama administration plan was centered around doing away with coal," Wheeler told the Journal in an interview. 662

The FBI has fired Peter Strzok, an agent who was removed from the Russia probe last year for sending text messages disparaging President Donald Trump, Strzok's lawyer said Monday.Aitan Goelman, Strzok's attorney, said FBI Deputy Director David Bowdich ordered the agent's termination on Friday. Goelman said that the deputy director's decision comes after the head of the office that normally handles disciplinary actions decided Strzok should instead face a demotion and 60-day suspension."The decision to fire Special Agent Strzok is not only a departure from typical Bureau practice, but also contradicts (FBI) Director (Christopher) Wray's testimony to Congress and his assurances that the FBI intended to follow its regular process in this and all personnel matters," Goelman said in his statement.The FBI declined to comment on Goelman's assertions.Strzok played a lead role in the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server and was involved in the FBI's recommendation that no criminal charges be filed against the former secretary of state. He later helped oversee the beginnings of the probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, and his involvement in both investigations has been seized on by Republicans as evidence of anti-Trump bias in the bureau and those investigating potential coordination between the Trump campaign and Moscow.The President tweeted about the firing Monday afternoon, calling Strzok a "total fraud" and repeated his claim that there was no collusion nor that he obstructed justice."Agent Peter Strzok was just fired from the FBI - finally. The first presidential debate of the 2020 election is behind us, but we still have two more coming up before Nov. 3, as well as a vice presidential debate.The single vice presidential debateThe next debate will be between the running mates, Vice President Mike Pence and Sen. Kamala Harris. The candidates for vice president will square off on Oct. 7 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.The debate will be moderated by Susan Page, the Chief of USA Today’s Washington Bureau.The event will be divided into nine segments, with about 10 minutes being spent on each. Page will ask an opening question, after which Pence and Harris will have two minutes to respond. Page will use the balance of the time in the segment for a deeper discussion of the topic.The second presidential debateThe next time President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden will face off will be on Oct. 15 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, Florida.The debate will be a town meeting-style event, moderated by Steve Scully, Senior Executive Producer and Political Editor at C-SPAN.The debate’s questions will be posed by citizens of the South Florida area. The candidates will have two minutes to respond to each question and there will be an additional minute for the moderator to facilitate further discussion.The town meeting participants will be uncommitted voters selected under the supervision of Dr. Frank Newport, Senior Scientist at Gallup.The third presidential debateThe third and final presidential debate of this cycle will be held just days before Election Day on Oct. 22. The event is set to take place at Belmont University in Nashville Tennessee and will be moderated by Kristen Welker, White House Correspondent for NBC News and weekend co-anchor of the Today Show.The format of this debate will be identical to the first, divided into six segments with about 15 minutes dedicated to major topics selected by the moderator. Welker will open each segment with a question and each candidate will have two minutes to respond. Trump and Biden will then have an opportunity to respond to each other.Changes to upcoming debatesThe day after the first debate, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced that there will be changes made “to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues” at future debates this election season."Last night’s debate made clear that additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues," the commission said in a statement. The Broadway League, the trade association that regulates theater performances in New York City, said Monday that all Broadway shows would be canceled through the end of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.The group says that those who have purchased tickets to shows before Jan. 3, 2021 will automatically receive an email detailing refund and exchange information."Every single member of our community is eager to get back to work sharing stories that inspire our audience through the transformative power of a shared live experience," Thomas Schumacher, the Broadway League's Chairman of the Board, said in a statement released Monday. The Cambridge Analytica?scandal has thrust Facebook privacy settings into the national conversation after the political firm used the personal data of about 50 million people without their consent.Now, Mozilla is helping Firefox users keep their Facebook data secure so they won't be exploited in the future.The company has introduced a Firefox extension that it says will make it much harder for Facebook to track which websites you browse.Facebook has developed a network of trackers that tell the social media site which of its users are visiting certain webpages, like online retailers. Facebook will then use that information to serve its users ads based on what products they've been viewing.Mozilla says its Facebook Container extension will make it much more difficult to track which websites you visit, and keep your browsing information private.Mozilla admits the extension isn't perfect. In a blog post, the company said that the extension would not have prevented user information from being abused in the Cambridge Analytica scandal. It also says that Facebook Container would not work well on sites which require you to use Facebook information to log in.But Mozilla says the simple step of downloading the extension is giving power back to internet users. "Troves of data are being collected on your behavior on the internet, and so giving users a choice to limit what they share in a way that is under their control is important," the company wrote.To download Facebook container, first download the free Mozilla Firefox browser if you're not already using it.
