SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Naval aviators and Marines from NAS North Island and Camp Pendleton are helping firefighters battle the Valley Fire.They joined four aircraft from the Army National Guard who came nearly straight from fighting fires in Northern California, according to Army National Guard officials."Due to the increased fire activity throughout the state of California up to and including Southern California, we are extremely short on resources, private, state, and federal resources. They dropped 1,500 gallons of water on Monday, according to the Wing."It's cool because they use the same kinds of equipment we do so we're able to get tips and tricks from them." They lay on the floor of the chopper and watch the bucket fill with water, then call for the drop, when they're near the assigned target."It's definitely been a long couple days because from start-up to shut down, we come in at six, we have to land by 18[00] so it's a 12-hour day usually," Sennett said.Those long days paying off as the containment of the Valley Fire jumped from 1% - 32%."It feels invigorating to go out and do something that has a positive impact on the people around us. So much of Southern California supports what we do here and so it's good to give back to the local community," Pilot John Findley said. The crews flying out of Pendleton have years of training to qualify for this mission. It takes hundreds of hours of maintenance to keep the helicopters running during these missions.Thursday, the fire had burned about 17,565 acres and was 32% contained. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One CHP officer is dead, two were injured in a shootout in Riverside Monday and one CHP officer was injured in El Cajon by a hit-and-run drunk driver Tuesday night. CHP is now examining their protocols, seeing if there are lessons to be learned from Riverside.10News spoke with a veteran CHP officer to find out what protocol is in place to protect officers.Veteran CHP officer Phil Konstantin dedicated a decade to the force and has many stories to tell. "Crashed into by vehicles, I've had to jump out of the way of vehicles, and I've been shot at," he said.Around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night a CHP officer was trying to remove debris from the 94 freeway when officers say a man drove into the center divide multiple times. The officer tried to wave the man down and was hit. The man drove away and was stopped a short time later.He was driving 13 mph in the shoulder with his hood obscuring the windshield. The man was arrested for DUI.His girlfriend drove to the scene and was also arrested for DUI.Konstantin says a traffic stop is one of the most dangerous parts of their job.He said when they pull a car over, officers turn their wheels away from the shoulder so if their car is hit, it rolls into traffic instead of into the car the officer pulled over or the officer. He also said he kept a vigilant eye on the people in the car and on traffic."All of the sudden if I lose sight of you and you're jumping into the car very quickly, are you going for a gun like with what happened in Riverside?" He said being vigilant will save your life.In 1987 Konstantin's training was put to the test. "As soon as the car stopped moving someone got out of the passenger side and shot at us.'' He and his partner were working the graveyard shift and pulled over what they thought was a drunk driver. It turned out being a pair who had kidnapped a restaurant owner they robbed and they were trying to go to the man's home to ransack it."The guy aims at the car in general and then at someone who would've been standing by the driver's side door. Has I been standing at the driver's side door, I would've been hit by buckshot," he said staying in the car and ducking saved his life.He said any driver can help an officer by keeping their hands on the wheel, listening to an officer's directions, and telling an officer if they need to reach somewhere to get their license, so they don't think you will harm them. 2524

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – One person is dead following a shooting at a Midway-area adult store, according to police.The shooting happened around 1:45 p.m. on the 3600 block of Midway Drive at Kemper Street, near the back of the Home Depot.When they arrived, authorities found the body of a 65-year-old woman inside the store. The woman had trauma to her upper body, according to police. Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was reportedly assaulted while inside the business.The possible suspect was described as a white man last seen wearing a navy blue shirt and navy blue pants. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – More rain and possible snow is expected to hit San Diego County this weekend, as a low-pressure storm moves through the region.San Diego's coasts and valleys could get anywhere between .25 - .50 of an inch of rain and near 1 inch in the mountains. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Once election results start to come in, some of the races could be so close to call that they could lead to legal battles in court. Eugene Volokh, a constitutional law professor at UCLA, explained that it is likely some races could be so close that we won't know the results for a few days, maybe even weeks. When it comes to the presidential race, Volokh said that if the results are a landslide, the likelihood of legal challenges are close to none. If it's a tight race, Volokh said we could see litigation in states where it is just too close to call. Recounts are also possible, but the professor said that it wouldn't be a national recount; instead, it would only focus on the states that have tight races. Across the country, there have already been some legal battles. In Houston, a federal judge refused to invalidate nearly 127,000 drive-thru mail-in ballots following a lawsuit filed by a group of Republicans. In Nevada, a judge rejected another GOP lawsuit aiming to stop early voting over signature-matching software and observers when votes are being counted. If there is need for legal action, in any of the races, Volokh said it would likely be resolved in a couple of weeks. 1221
