COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A federal court in Cincinnati will hear complex legal arguments for and against Ohio's Down syndrome abortion ban Wednesday. The case is viewed as pivotal in the national debate over the procedure. The government will argue before the full U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati that the sidelined 2017 law doesn't actually ban any abortions. They say it impedes doctors, not pregnant women. A group of mothers whose children have Down syndrome argues the Down Syndrome Non-Discrimination Act actually discriminates against their children, singling out their fetal anomaly over many others in order to politicize the issue. 666

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Clinton Township man has been charged with operating as a health professional without a license after a search indicated he was running a dental practice in the basement of his home.Police say they served a search warrant on an unnamed suspect at his home. In the basement, they a dentist chair, an X-ray machine, dentistry utensils and molds for teeth among other items.Reports allege that receipts for equipment and supplies were found outside the home as well.According to police, the suspect stated he was seeing one to two patients in his home per day, using his church as a word-of-mouth referral service.“We are thankful that someone had the courage to come forward and report the defendant for his criminal behavior,” Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith said. “The wanton disregard for the law by the defendant is disturbing.”The suspect faces up to 4 years in prison for the felony. 931

Childcare facilities are struggling with how they will continue operating during the COVID-19 pandemic.“Providing care right now is expensive. We necessarily need sanitizing equipment, supportive PPE equipment. We need to ensure that ratios are high and group size is low, and that the physical space and the distances that are needed as well as the equipment and resources are available,” said Lynette Fraga, Executive Director of Child Care Aware of America. Child Care Aware of America says it's possible that anywhere from 30 to 50% of facilities nationwide could close permanently, depending on how long the pandemic goes on. That's with the increasing cost of much needed added health and safety measures. Also, some places are getting less money because they're keeping classrooms smaller now.“That means those providers that are open those prices may really be affected for parents, so any way you may look at this equation, the price of care is a real concern for parents and the price for providers to provide that care is a real concern,” said Fraga. The organization says some of the billion the industry is asking Congress for would help families with this cost. It adds that families need to be the ones to raise concerns about access to affordable care.Childcare facilities are planning for what comes next if we see another spike in COVID-19 cases this fall. They're creating emergency preparedness plans, learning from what we've experienced over the last few months. 1500

Despite saying that the spread of coronavirus is going to get "very, very bad," President Donald Trump said that he plans on reopening commerce in the country "very soon."The statement is at odds at the recommendation of many leading public health officials, who suggest the worst of the spread of the coronavirus might not come until for later in the spring, although an exact date on the peak is still up in the air, according to the CDC. Trump in his Monday press briefing suggested that the economic fallout from preventing the spread of coronavirus could be worse than the actual spread of coronavirus. "America will again, and soon, be open for business. Very soon. A lot sooner than three or four months that somebody was suggesting. A lot sooner. We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself," Trump said.Trump's comments were back by economic adviser Larry Kudlow, who told Fox News on Monday, "The president is right. The cure can't be worse than the disease. And we're going to have to make some difficult tradeoffs."The Trump administration is requesting states to not issue updated unemployment numbers as many workers are out of work to prevent the spread of the virus. The Dow Jones has lost more than one-third of its value in the last six weeks as the virus has spread globally.Last week, the Trump administration issued a 15-day guidance to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. Trump said that the guidance will be reevaluated next week. Amid the guidance, a number of states have closed all non-essential businesses in order to slow the spread of the virus. The top concern is that hospital could be overwhelmed with a surge of patients. Trump added that "We're giving the governors a lot of leeway."Trump said on Monday that reopening sections of the economy will take weeks and not months. "We can do both at the same time," Trump said about reopening the economy and preventing the spread of coronavirus. As part of fighting the virus, Trump boasted about several drugs that are being shipped to the states, with the hope they can be used to treat coronavirus patients. These drugs however, as of Monday, are still early in the testing phase and have not been approved by the FDA as a treatment for coronavirus. Also during Monday's news briefing, Trump and Attorney General William Barr said that an executive order will be issued to prohibit the hoarding of medical supplies. Barr said that the order won't go after individuals who have a large stockpile of supplies, but will target corporations and businesses that could potentially have warehouses full of supplies, such as masks and hand sanitizer.
