(KGTV) - A Paradise family is thanking the San Diego community, after donations began pouring in for them following the deadly Camp Fire.The Harrisons are currently staying with family in Santee after the fire destroyed their homes. With nothing to return to, the family said they may make San Diego their permanent home and have already started looking at schools for their teenage son."I don't think Thanksgiving could have come at a better time," said Emily Keith, who evaded flames while carrying the family's three pets and caring for her brother."I had to go up on sidewalks and into front yards and in between trees, and try to maneuver my way out of town," Keith said.RELATED: Light rain falling on Camp Fire zone could hurt search effortDuring the evacuation, the children were separated from their parents. At one point, their car caught fire and they were forced to run from the flames."It was a life or death situation, honestly," Haley Harrison said. "I was running down the road hoping that someone would stop."The family made it safely to Chico nearly seven hours later. While they haven't been able to go back to Paradise, they've seen photos of their homes burned to the ground."My kids are safe. 18 years of stuff and memories we had in the house are gone but I don't care about that," Haley and Emily's dad Tyler said. "You hit the reset button. (KGTV) -- Ahead of heavy rain expected to hit the area in the next several days, Santa Barbara County issued mandatory evacuations for areas that are at extreme and high risk for debris flow.The mandatory evacuations go into effect Tuesday at noon for residents near the Thomas, Sherpa and Whittier burn areas.People in the Alamo burn area are in a recommended evacuation warning area. The latest models from the National Weather Service show the potential for rainfall of half an inch to three-quarters of an inch per hour, which could trigger debris flow. 587

(AP) — Orange County’s new interim health officer says he will lift a requirement that residents wear face coverings in public and instead recommend they do so to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus. The change comes three days after the previous health officer abruptly resigned following threats she received over her order requiring masks as the county allowed more businesses to reopen. Residents have railed against the requirement at public meetings. Los Angeles and San Diego counties have similar requirements. SAN YSIDRO (CNS) - A 32-year-old man was wounded in a shooting early Wednesday morning in a San Ysidro parking lot, police said.It happened shortly after 3:45 a.m. on East Beyer Boulevard, north of Camino De La Plaza, San Diego police Officer Tony Martinez said.The victim had parked his vehicle in a public parking lot, then entered Mexico on foot through a pedestrian crossing, Martinez said. After the 32-year-old man returned from Mexico, a man confronted him and pointed a gun at him as he was getting into his vehicle."(The victim) ignored the suspect and the suspect shot at him numerous times," the officer said. "One of the bullets struck the front windshield of the vehicle and struck (the victim) in the chest."The victim called 911 and was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, Martinez said. The gunman fled the area on foot.The suspected gunman was described as a 6-foot Latino in his 30s, about 200 pounds, with a bald head and a goatee. (KGTV) - Traffic at the San Ysidro Port of Entry was left at a standstill for more than an hour following a reported security incident Saturday.Multiple lanes through the port were closed following the find, 10News viewer video showed. Witnesses at the scene told 10News border security officials were reportedly looking into a suspicious object left on the Mexican side of the border crossing.One witness told 10News they had been waiting at least an hour for traffic to open up as of 1:10 p.m.10NEWS TRAFFIC CONDITIONS10News has reached out to Border Patrol officials for more information.
