If meditation and yoga don’t do the trick, you can try axe throwing in Mission Valley.Battle Axe SD is generating new interest in the practice that’s similar to a game of darts. Players throw an axe at a wooden target and score points based on where the axe lands. There are three rounds, with five throws per player.Steve and Annie Wyland created the facility after throwing axes on the East Coast. Steve lost his job, and the couple decided to move to San Diego.Their new project offers experiences like birthday and bachelor/bachelorette parties, and corporate outings. Five of the facility’s 11 lanes are dedicated to walk-ins. There’s also league play on Wednesday nights.If you’ve never thrown an axe, don’t worry, BattleAxe SD says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Normal Street in Hillcrest Friday, things were anything but normal.   Tim Henderson and his colleagues were checking email in the street."Just a minute ago, we had a meeting out here," he says while pointing to an assortment of chairs.    He and his co-workers at KTUA, a landscape architecture and planning firm, set up a little home office in a spot usually occupied by 3 to 4 parked cars.   The space was decorated with plants and patio furniture.Welcome to “Park(ing) Day 2017,” billed as a worldwide event where artists and designers transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks.    The event ran Friday from 9AM – 3PM, with several downtown businesses also taking park."We're in a ‘car-centric’ world, we always have to supply places for cars,” Tim explained.  “We're making a statement: during some part of the year, you can come out into a space not  being used for cars -- and have a park!"Henderson and his work buddies barbecued in the parking spots and even roasted s’mores.Parking is at a premium in Hillcrest, but Henderson said nobody seemed to mind them taking up the spots.    In fact, he said drivers had been slowing down to catch a glimpse at the “front yard” they created on the street.“They love it,” he said. 1351

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Pilot Robert DeLaurentis touched down this week in San Diego after traveling 26,000 miles in the name of peace.DeLaurentis, known as the peace pilot, flew from the South Pole to the North Pole in a journey that took him to six continents and 22 countries in the name of peace."The mission of the flight is world peace and we're connecting the South Pole and the North Pole, the two places on the planet where peace has always existed and helping to connect everybody in between," DeLaurentis said.His journey to the only two locations on Earth that have never seen war will be chronicled in the upcoming documentary, "Peace Pilot to the Ends of the Earth and Beyond," featuring a collection of interviews, blogging, and observations.DeLaurentis encountered a slew of mechanical issues during his adventure."In fact, when I left Ushuaia for the South Pole I packed up all my personal belongings in a hotel rook with my address I assessed my chances of coming back at about 50%," says DeLaurentis. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - People who live near Mini Square Park in City Heights are fed up with what they say is a rise in crime and noise. They're calling for a curfew to be imposed at the park from 9 pm - 5 am."Every rule that's posted here is broken all day long and mostly all night long," says one woman who asked 10News not to identify her because she feels unsafe in her home next to the park. "I can get practically high from the marijuana that comes into my window cause it overlooks the park. The noise becomes just unbearable at times."The park opened in 2014, on 43rd Street in between Polk and University Avenue. Sitting between a senior center, an apartment complex and a health clinic, It was designed as a way to give adults in the community a gathering place.Instead, neighbors say it's been overrun with crime and drugs.A search of the website crimemapping.com shows 148 crimes reported within 1000 feet of the park over the last six months. That includes 21 stolen cars, 19 assaults and 16 robberies.It's gotten to the point where some people say they're afraid to walk by it, especially at night."Of course I would like to be in this park, to spend my free time there," says Isaac Musaazi, who lives in the apartment complex next door. "But I can't because of the people who are there."A community meeting to discuss a curfew and how to enforce it is scheduled for Thursday with the Community Parks Committee. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police have identified the man suspected of stabbing a 55-year-old to death in the Midway District Thanksgiving Day. According to San Diego Police, Forrest Robert Brantley, 38, stabbed 55-year-old Robert Frank Erbe around 8 a.m. November 28 on the 3100 block of Sports Arena Boulevard. Erbe was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.RELATED: Police identify man killed in Midway District stabbingAfter investigating the stabbing, police learned that Brantley and Erbe got into some sort of fight before Brantley is accused of stabbing Erbe in the neck. Brantley was last seen walking away from the scene. He is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, police say.
