ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The man who killed John Lennon in 1980 says he was seeking glory and deserved the death penalty for a "despicable" act. Mark David Chapman made the comments last month to a parole board before it denied him parole for an 11th time. The now 65-year-old inmate expressed remorse for gunning down the former Beatle. Chapman called his actions "creepy" and "despicable." He said he thinks all the time about the pain he inflicted on Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono. The board said it found his statement that "infamy brings you glory" disturbing. Chapman will be up for parole again in August 2022. 614

ALPINE, Calif (KGTV) - An East County woman is recounting the "breathless" moment after she looked in her truck engine and saw a very large rattlesnake.In the backyard of a home along Foss Road sits a 1978 Chevy half-ton truck, Jules Piatek's first-ever vehicle. "I love my truck. I don't want that snake anywhere near me. Holy crap, what is it going to do?" said Piatek.What Piatek did manage to do was take a few photos, before calling up professional snake wrangler Tom Minga. He arrived and used snake tongs to remove it from the engine."It was shady, just in there just hanging out," said Minga.Minga says it was a Southern Pacific, the most common local rattlesnake and about 4-feet long. It's hardly the first oversized rattler of the season. Minga just caught another one a few homes down.A few days ago, 10News reported on the discovery of a 6-foot-long Red Diamond rattler that surprised a woman and her little dog in a Santee backyard.Minga says the giant sizes mean despite the lack of rain this winter, food remains aplenty and the snakes should continue to be an active snake season. Adnan Syed, the subject of the groundbreaking true crime podcast Serial, has been granted to a new trial by the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, according to the Associated Press.In 2016, a Baltimore City Circuit Court vacated Syed's conviction in the murder of Hae Min Lee. The state then appealed the ruling. According to the Baltimore Sun, the state can still appeal to the Maryland Court of Appeals. It's unclear if the state will choose to do so.Syed was convicted of killing Hae Min Lee in 2000. She is calling for the retailer to remove the item from shelves.As of Monday afternoon her post had more than 166,000 comments and 15,000 shares.Several who commented on the photo disagreed with the woman, saying people of many races have picked cotton.
