CVS Health is being sued for allegedly revealing the HIV status of 6,000 patients in Ohio.A federal lawsuit claims CVS mailed letters last year that showed the status of participants in the state's HIV drug assistance program through the envelopes' glassine window. The complaint, which was filed March 21 in federal court in Ohio, also names Fiserv, the company that CVS hired to mail the letters. On the envelopes used by Fiserv, the patients' HIV status could be seen through the clear window, just above their name and address, the documents states. The letters included the patients' new benefits cards and information about a mail prescription program. The companies are being sued by three unidentified plaintiffs, according to the complaint. The first plaintiff, only identified as John Doe One of Delaware County, Ohio, says he "feels that CVS has essentially handed a weapon to anyone who handled the envelope, giving them the opportunity to attack his identity or cause other harm to him."Another plaintiff identified as John Doe Two of Defiance County says he lives in a small town and fears the stigma stemming from the disclosure of his HIV status. He is also concerned that his "friends and family run the risk of being stigmatized just by being seen with him."The third plaintiff says he also lives in a small town in Gallia County, where "everyone knows everyone" and has experienced "significant distress as a result of this disclosure."He is scared to leave his home and has "experienced complications and health issues since this disclosure, up to and including just in the past several days."The plaintiffs are seeking a class-action suit and a jury trial. The attorneys claim that CVS failed to announce the breach of privacy data and did not contact all the patients whose status was revealed. In a statement to CNN, CVS Health said the envelope window was intended to show a reference code for the assistance program and not the recipient's health status."CVS Health places the highest priority on protecting the privacy of those we serve, and we take our responsibility to safeguard confidential information very seriously," the statement said."As soon as we learned of this incident, we immediately took steps to eliminate the reference code to the plan name in any future mailings."A representative for Fiserv told CNN the company does not comment on pending litigation. The Ohio Department of Public Health did not reply to a request for comment Saturday. 2483
Congress is currently honoring one of its own — longtime Georgia representative and Civil Rights leader John Lewis.Lewis' body was flown from Alabama to Washington, D.C. on Monday, and is currently lying in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.Members of the House of Representatives and Senate will have a chance to pay their respects before a public viewing takes place this evening. Among those who paid tribute to Lewis with speeches were Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California. CNN reports that the public viewing will take place outdoors due to the coronavirus pandemic. On Sunday, Lewis' body made a final trip over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, where half a century ago, he led several marches for voting rights. The first of those marches became known as "Bloody Sunday," as Lewis and other civil rights activists were met with force from state and local police as they crossed the bridge. The marches sparked a national conversation about voting rights for Black people, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed a few months later.Following events in Washington, Lewis' body will return to Georgia — the state he represented in Congress for more than 30 years. Lewis' funeral will take place on Thursday at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta — the same church that was formerly led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.A public viewing at the Capitol building is one of the highest honors a Representative, a Senator or elected official can receive upon their death. Rep. Elijah Cummings, a fellow Civil Rights leader, and Congressman leader, was the last person to receive the honor upon his death in 2019. President George H.W. Bush and Sen. John McCain have also had public memorials at the Capitol in recent years.Lewis died on July 17 after a six-month battle with cancer. 1872
CLEVELAND — Have you ever heard of an emotional support animal being a squirrel?A passenger boarding a Frontier Airlines flight in Orlando headed to Cleveland got on the plane with one Tuesday night.A Frontier Airlines official said the passenger did note in their reservation that they were bringing an emotional support animal but did not indicate that it was a squirrel.Frontier Airlines does not allow rodents on flights. When they told the passenger of the policy and asked her to deplane, she refused and Orlando police were called. Many passengers WEWS spoke to didn't seem annoyed or angry but rather amused."The joke of the plane was hashtag squirrel so you’ll probably see it all over social media," said passenger Amber Calhoun. She was eventually escorted off the plane, allowing the plane to depart. A spokesperson for Frontier Airlines said the woman's ticket did indicate she had an emotional support animal but never specified the type of animal. The whole fiasco delayed the flight for almost two hours. 1046
Consumers can consider many factors when evaluating an airline, but getting you where you’re going on time, not losing your checked bag, and giving you no reason to lodge a formal complaint seem like decent baselines.Fortunately, the government requires the nation’s largest dozen commercial airlines to report statistics on just those things. The Air Travel Consumer Report, released by the Department of Transportation, measures not only performance of major U.S. airlines such as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, but also regional carriers such as ExpressJet and SkyWest, which are contracted to fly short routes to and from hubs of those big airlines. Here’s how airlines measured up in 2017, according to the report.On-time rates 784
CLAIREMONT MESA EAST (CNS) - A 63-year-old man driving a Cadillac slammed into a 25-year-old motorcyclist in the Clairemont Mesa East neighborhood, breaking the younger man's femur and causing other serious injuries -- which not considered life-threatening, police said today. The 2008 Cadillac CTS was exiting a shopping center driveway when it struck the victim at 5:40 p.m. Saturday, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department. But the Cadillac kept going -- traveling south until it smashed into an apartment gate. The 2018 Honda sport bike ended up in the bushes at a different apartment complex, Heims said. The San Diego Police Traffic Division is investigating, although they said a sobriety check cleared the Cadillac driver of possible DUI charges.Anyone with information about the crash is asked to called the SDPD at 619-531-2000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-580-8477. 908
