Across the country, new gender-neutral salons are charging by the minute and not the gender.At Bee Sweet Salon giving unique cuts is nothing new, but how they price them is cutting edge."Our salon is gender-free, especially when it comes to pricing," said owner Dani Bee.Clients at the Bee Sweet Salon pay by the time spent in the chair, not by their gender."It's an arbitrary way to price a haircut," said Bee. On average, women pay about for a cut, while a man pays on average, according to The Beauty Association.Emily Hope Dobkin was tired of paying more for her haircuts than her husband was paying for his. She said the time they spend in the chair was the same. "The price would go up every year, and I was like maybe. I shouldn't be getting my haircut this often because I can't afford it," Dobkin said.It’s not just haircuts that are priced by gender. The Pink Tax has brought to light the extra money women pay for products such as razors, shampoo, clothes, dry cleaning and more."It allows us to see where things are gendered and where they don't need to be," said hair stylist Abrean Sophia Marie.Abrean believes it’s about making everyone feel included. "Speed dating is a way to meet people face to face in a 6-minute mini-date format," says Michael Clarke, who runs Pre-Dating Speed Dating. Clarke says people dating later in life are frustrated with the apps and the online quest to find love. "Prior to marriage, or when they were younger, they met people face to face,” Clarke says. “This is what their comfort zone is." Jodie Lopes is done swiping right and left on dating apps. "It's really about always putting your best foot forward all the time. I just want to be myself," she says. So, Lopes is participating in this speed dating event that’s for midlife singles only. As far as medical research goes, there's mixed reviews on whether buying organic tampons, pads, and other hygiene products is the right thing to do. However, that hasn't stopped a lot of people from going organic anyways. Customer Jasmin Rosil said, "There is a huge movement for positive period conversation." Rosil is a buyer for the Turnip Truck, and she feels strongly that organic tampons are better."There has been a wide awareness of things like fiberglass in cotton tampons and pads which would otherwise aggravate the vaginal wall, it would actually make your period symptoms worse." Obviously companies dispute those findings, so we reached out to the medical experts at the Obstetrics & Gynecology office here in Nashville. They said they're excited that women now have more options, but so far, there's no medical research to say one way or the other if organic is better for your body.The trend, though, is still running strong.Rosil said after she began using the organic products, her cramps have lessened, and she feels better."A lot of the time we found that an organic options are just going to be a clean, simple, cotton product."
