SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer says the city's Get It Done mobile app has led to thousands of tons of trash being removed.In the app's first three years, more than 7,000 tons of trash, debris, and waste has been removed from public spaces around the city.The city broke that number up into:Illegal dumping/litter removal - 4,440 tons of wasteEncampment debris cleanup - 2,528 tons of wasteThe app was made available in 2017 to encourage residents to report trash and other concerns in their neighborhoods. Since then, city crews have responded to more than 6,500 reports and conducted more than 32,000 proactive cleanups.The average response time has also shrunk from 25 days in 2017 to five days in 2020, the city says.Council members have also been able to use the data received from the app to identify hot spots in their districts.The app is part of the city's "Clean SD" program. The program was born out of a need to clean unsanitary areas in the public, including homeless encampments, according to the city. Since 2017, the city has sanitized and power washed 18,000 city blocks, or about 1,800 miles of sidewalk."Clean SD is all about restoring a sense of pride in our communities and making sure our neighborhoods are clean and safe for everyone. Our cleanup crews have accomplished that and so much more," Faulconer said this week from the site of a frequent illegal dumping site in Paradise Hills. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police and National City firefighters used “scare tactics” this Halloween with elaborate haunted stations, touted as safer alternatives to traditional trick-or-treating on dark streets.The Southeastern Division police station building on Skyline Drive was transformed into a walk-though “haunted station," with room after room of zombies, creepy clowns and ghouls, some played by department employees in costume.“It’s all in good fun, for the kids to save a safe place to go, to get a little scared but in a safe environment,” San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman said before she took a tour of the haunts.Joseph Lemon, Jr. does not let his 11-year-old daughter Ananda do traditional trick-or-treating.“It’s not as safe as it used to be, and you have to go and x-ray the candy and all of that," Lemon, Jr. said. "Now many of the churches and the police department put on events like this that are safer.”  They also had candy and entertainment in the parking lot. Zimmerman said about 500 families tour the haunted station each year.In National City, the training tower at Fire Station #34 on East 16th Street became “Tower of Terror” for the tenth year in a row.Hundreds of people lined up throughout the night to walk through the maze of haunted rooms and be scared by ghouls, played by students from Sweetwater High School and firefighters.They also had candy, a costume contest, a bounce house and less-scary games for the little ones.National City Police say just after 8:30 p.m. several juvenile males threw eggs at the event.No one was hit and there was no damage to any property. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County officials say they are taking additional steps regarding employers linked to outbreaks.Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said the county will update its public health order to state "entities shall notify employees of an outbreak that occurred at a physical location where they work."Fletcher added that the county believes most businesses are acting responsibly and notifying employees. He said that the county wants to make sure that employers are notifying every employee at the specific location an outbreak has been traced to, even if they may not have had close contact with a positive case.RELATED: San Diego County health officials warn local churches about holding indoor servicesThose employees will then be given instructions suggesting the next steps to take.The new order will be effective starting Thursday.Wednesday, the county reported 24 active community outbreaks, which is more than three times the county's trigger of seven community outbreaks in a week.The move was announced in addition to other measures to increase public health order compliance, including a compliance hotline and email, additional staff for egregious violations, outbreak inspections, and follow-up inspections.RELATED: San Diego based company behind rapid COVID saliva test“We’re in the process of setting up a health compliance hotline and email access,” said Supervisor Nathan Fletcher. “We’re bringing on additional staff to increase our ability to respond to those egregious cases those willful, blatant violations.”Fletcher said more information would be discussed at the County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday.“The current compliance effort really focuses on number one, the egregious cases we’ve seen. County officials learned of a COVID-19 outbreak reported at The Gym in Pacific Beach this week. Last week, Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county’s public health officer, sent a letter to The Gym asking for the immediate closure of indoor operations.The Gym continued to operate in violation of state and local health orders, according to the letter.
