The concerned neighbors live in homes in a canyon several thousand feet north of the project, separated by open space.The city also filed a notice in the local newspaper about the upcoming hearing, said Poway Community Outreach Coordinator Rene Carmichael.City staff noted the land had been part of the Poway Business Park development plan since 1985. It was graded in the early 2000s but otherwise sat vacant because the owners of the property had trouble generating interest.After the city agreed to change the zoning classification in November to allow for a distribution and warehouse facility, Ryan Companies acquired the property in January. The golf course was closed after a previous development plan was defeated by voters in 2017.McNamara calls his development "The Farms at Stoneridge." It has an agricultural theme, including hiking trails, parks, community gardens, a butterfly farm, and an amphitheater for public performances.The property is owned by real estate mogul Michael Schlesinger. His 2017 campaign to replace a portion of the golf course with condos was rejected by Poway voters. Schlesinger shut down the course the next morning.McNamara tells 10News he has negotiated an option to buy the land from Schlesinger, dependent on his ability to get city and voter approval on the new plan. He says it is important for a local developer to take over the property. "I've been involved in almost everything that's gone on in this city for 20-plus years. I like to think I can be trusted," McNamara said.Some residents have held out hope the City of Poway would take over the land to re-open the golf course. However, McNamara says the city has no interest, as projections suggest an annual 0,000 loss. It was raining and she still was just glowing, just walking as fast as she could,” said Gould.She says it was only minutes after she saw her bubbly letter carrier that she heard the sirens.“The police were out there picking up all the mail and trying to gather it, and all you do is just watch them.”Gould watched nearby as first responders worked desperately to find signs of life.“They tried for the longest time to revive her. POWAY (CNS) - Authorities today identified a 69-year-old man who was gravely injured when he was struck by a car while walking in the same Poway intersection where sheriff's deputies were investigating a collision in which his wife struck and injured a pedestrian about 30 minutes earlier.Robert Tockstein of Ramona was struck shortly after 8:35 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Twin Peaks Road and Midland Road, and he died at an Escondido hospital early Wednesday morning, according to sheriff's Lt. Dustin Lopez and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.In the first crash, which happened around 8:05 p.m. Tuesday, Tockstein's wife struck a man who was walking in a crosswalk at the intersection, Lopez said. The victim was transported to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido where he was treated for minor injuries.While deputies investigated the first crash, Tockstein arrived at the scene, Lopez said.Tockstein moved his wife's vehicle and as he was walking back to the scene of the crash he was struck in the east crosswalk of Twin Peaks Road, the Medical Examiner's Office said in a statement.The driver of the Toyota Prius that struck Tockstein remained at the scene and cooperated with deputies, Lopez said.Tockstein was transported to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where he was pronounced dead at 1:58 a.m. Wednesday, the Medical Examiner's Office said. 1390
