SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts from all over San Diego County honored our local veterans laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial Park on Saturday. They placed American flags at the gravesite of every fallen veteran at the cemetery. The event is done all over the country to teach the scouts about patriotism and community service. Behind the idea of 'mini weddings' was Los Willows venue owner, Cathie Ransom."With this horrible pandemic that has affected everyone throughout the world, this is a great way to service for our customers that’d like to have a wedding now and not have to wait," Ransom described.The 'mini weddings' didn't include everything a traditional wedding would like dinner and dancing but it was close."We have the officiant, the wedding cake, the photographer to capture memories, so everything is there ready to go so they don’t have to worry about a thing."It allowed up to 10 guests, all social distanced and came at a fraction of the price."Our couples arrive then they have time to get ready, and then they start the ceremony. We have the cutting of the wedding cake and then we have photos," Ransom added.She said when the pandemic hit, it forced her Oceanside venue to close. But thankfully with quick thinking of 'mini weddings', her Fallbrook location stayed open was able to satisfy anxious couples."I feel like whenever life throws you a curve, you just got to get up and figure it out and usually its for the better."It was a popular choice for those near and far."We’re getting couples from LA, Riverside and Orange County driving down because they don’t want to travel too far."The 2-hour window let Ransom fit up to four weddings in a day and allowed her to keep costs low. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - When it comes to wrong-way crashes in San Diego County, 2018 is off to an unfortunate start.There have been numerous wrong-way vehicle crashes around the county nearly eight weeks into the new year, and authorities have not been able to pinpoint what exactly is causing an uptick in these types of crashes.According to Caltrans data, from 1995-2012, an average of 23 people died each year in wrong-way crashes on California roadways.San Diego had 13 wrong-way fatalities recorded in 2015 -- the last year Caltrans data was compiled for wrong-way crashes.In 2017, Caltrans launched a two-year pilot program in San Diego and Sacramento that focuses on ways to not only prevent wrong-way crashes but to also alert authorities in the event a vehicle is traveling in the wrong direction.As part of the test program, Caltrans has deployed reflective pavement markings on off-ramps and signs with flashing lights that turn on if a wrong-way vehicle is detected.Caltrans has not yet provided data collected from the program to determine the protective measures' effectiveness.Here's a look at wrong-way crashes on San Diego County roadways in the past 12 months.Feb. 20, 2018: Driver arrested on suspicion of DUI after wrong-way crash-- A driver was hospitalized -- and also arrested -- after police said he was driving in the wrong direction on Fairmount Ave. when he hit another vehicle. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Whitney Climenson noticed something at her recent shift at a Carslabd restaurant. It wasn’t nearly as crowded, and there were only three people on the clock - about half the normal level. She's instead spending most of her time trying to get through to the Employment Development Department, and figure out why weeks of her jobless benefits are still unpaid. “I would wait for hours on hold if it meant talking to somebody, but they just say ‘Oh, we can't take your call at this time,” Climenson said. Climenson's one of more than 200,000 San Diego County workers who lost their jobs in March and April amid the coronavirus pandemic - a number that many economists expected to grow in May. “Here in San Diego a bigger portion of our economy is in food and drinking establishment employment, and so what we would see then is a big rebound in that area as well locally,” said Alan Gin, economist at the University of San Diego. The hiring - already picking up locally. Andrew Feghali just opened Dave’s Hot Chicken in Pacific Beach. He’s hosting a job fair Monday with at least 10 openings. “We start above minimum wage, so we want to make sure we get the best and the brightest, and another perk is that you get free food,” Feghali said. But like many restaurants, Dave’s is not opening for in-house dining - that means while hiring is picking up, many restaurant jobs won't come back for a while - if at all. 1435
