Businesses are one step closer to growing their own marijuana in San Diego. The deadline to enter the lottery for those permits ended Wednesday afternoon. Bradley Fisher really has his hopes up. "I'm getting it," said Fisher. "I'll be one of the 40 forsure."  He applied for two permits Wednesday so his client can start growing their own pot. He submitted his paperwork ahead of the lottery deadline, which gives him a better chance of getting that permit down the road. His client already has a warehouse set up for production. "They're able to grow it and bring it right to the dispensary," said Fisher. "They can make baked items as well, cookies, cakes the whole nine-yards, and it's all legit because they'll have permits for it."But it's not a simple process. "They're gonna put like a mezzanine in the building, in the warehouse, ovens, and stuff like that, tons of lights," said Fisher. "Electric is going to be off the hook; water is going up there. It's very costly, but then again its very beneficial."The city is now reviewing those applications to make sure they meet their demands. "To make the cultivation center you need to be 1,000 feet from any schools, any churches, daycares, parks."Applicants can still apply for appointments Thursday even if they weren't part of the lottery. Central Illinois is coping with damages and injuries after a blitz of tornadoes Saturday, when 22 twisters were reported to the National Weather Service.Hardest hit was the town of Taylorviille, southeast of Springfield, where storm winds wrecked houses, downed power lines, pulled trees up by the roots, and left an unknown number of people injured.It "feels like I woke up to a nightmare," one man in Taylorville, who has lived there since the 1960s, told CNN affiliate WCIA.Taylorville Fire Department Chief Mike Crews said at a press conference no one was killed, and he couldn't comment on the number of injured."There were several people who were initially trapped in their homes due to damage initially but were rescued," Crews said. 748

CALEXICO (CNS) - The federal government today broke ground on the first border wall replacement project awarded under President Donald Trump.Customs and Border Protection is replacing a 2.25-mile section of border fencing constructed in the 1990s using scrap metal with a 30-foot-high bollard-style wall just south of downtown Calexico. The project covers an area west of the Calexico West Port of Entry, according to the agency.This project ``is one of Border Patrol's highest priority projects,'' according to a CBP statement ``Although the existing wall has proven effective at deterring unlawful cross-border activity, smuggling organizations damaged and breached this outdated version of a border wall several hundred times during the last two years, resulting in costly repairs.'' 794

(KGTV) -- First responders in Carlsbad are prepared for any emergency, thanks to their state of the art training facility."This is how we become good," says Carlsbad Fire Captain Scott Tucker. "This is our hallowed ground where we get to spend all the time, make the mistakes here, so we don't make them out there."The Carlsbad Safety Training Center spans four acres. It includes a four-story live burn tower, a two-story home, and a main street replica. It also has two shooting ranges, classrooms, and computer simulation rooms.The parking lot can also be used for driving simulations and tests."It's realistic training," says Carlsbad Police Captain Peter Pascual. "The officers can utilize what they learn in the training environment, out in the field."The shooting ranges are adaptable, letting agencies set up different scenarios. They can even drive cars into the range. "It allows us to get in the right frame of mind in how to survive and solve these problems in the field," says Pascual. "We try to create scenarios that are realistic and functional for the success of the officers in the field.""It allows us to get a good foundation in training and build on stuff that we normally don't get to do," says Tucker.Facility Manager Jason Kennedy says the complex tries to stay as modern as possible, always adding more ways to train."We're always looking forward, cause training is so dynamic," says Kennedy. "We're trying to look forward at what things are emerging in the environment."The facility has become so popular, other state and federal agencies have rented the facility from Carlsbad for their own training events.This year, 28 different agencies from around California and the rest of the United States have booked time to train in Carlsbad. Hundreds have stopped by either for tours or training since it opened."It is movie-esque," says Tucker.
