As schools start re-opening around the country, daycare and early childhood education centers are opening too.A question on the mind of parents is, "Should you send your toddler or preschooler back?"Like every other working mom, Danielle Green admits it's challenging. She basically has two jobs. Her career as a scientist, and her around-the-clock job of mom to 2-year-old Corey and 6-month-old Dylan keeps her busy.“Having children is a full-time job in itself so it turns more into a full-time job watching kids during the day and then doing the work during nap and evening,” Green said.It’s is not only exhausting, but she says, it's 100 percent, not realistic.“It adds a lot of stress for parents,” Green said. “For me, it added a lot of stress because we want to dedicate as much time as we can to our kids and so I took the path to dedicating everything to my kids and doing the work while the kids were sleeping.”So, when her daycare opened back up, Green and her husband talked and decided it was time.“There’s uncertainty in sending a child to daycare during a pandemic, but if we’re being realistic, eventually our kids are going to have to go back to school, so the question becomes at what point do we re-enroll them,” Green said.It's a topic that parents all around the country are discussing, because we all know it’s hard to do both. Parenting expert Gigi Schweikert said give up the dream of doing it all because no one can.“What I know as a working parent of four is that you can’t give your work 100% and you can’t give your children 100% so having your children in childcare gives them the opportunity to have the education socialization and guidance they need while you as a working parent can have that individualized concentrated time to give work your full attention,”Schweikert said.But to send your children back during a pandemic isn't easy. You have to do quite a bit of homework, make sure no one is allowed in the center aside from your child and staff members, and review all the protective measures for your county and state.Things like temperature checks, masks and face shields are being required at some daycares. Experts suggest inquiring about ventilation and cleanliness. And get parent referrals. A lot of them.“What really is important is trust. You’re going to need to check off all the boxes of making sure people are cleaning, making sure air is really good. Instinctually once you make that checklist, you have to say as a parent, 'Do I trust these people with my most important thing which is my child,'” Schweikert said.There are some things that might be missing because of COVID-19, like parent and teacher visits. Some facilities like Lightbridge Academy are now reliant on electronics and in-center cameras.Green said she's confident in her decision. Her boys are happy and healthy every day, and she feels confident that she's successfully managing her career.“It makes me feel good to know that the daycare is actually practicing the appropriate safety precautions and wearing the appropriate protective equipment, take temperatures it is an added measure,” Green said. 3130

As we near the end of October, Thanksgiving is less than a month away and Hanukkah and Christmas are both in less than two months. A lot of hotels are taking note, and Paula Twidale with AAA says some are offering deep discounts."You’re seeing this like perhaps 15, 20, 25 percent off hotels in certain regions to entice people to make that commitment. Also, flexible terms and conditions," said Twidale, AAA's senior vice president of travel.She says right now hotels are at about a 50 percent capacity, and some companies are finding ways to keep people traveling."We’ve never had nearly as busy a fall travel season as we have right now. Not even close. We’ve been basically sold out in every mountain town in the US since August," said Brent Handler, founder and CEO of Inspirato. "It works like Rent the Runway or how the original Netflix subscription worked, where as soon as you check out, you can book your next trip. So, you can have one reservation at a time."Through Inspirato Pass, travelers have access to hundreds of destinations around the world with no nightly rates, fees, or other fares."Families will take one of our houses in Cabo for a month or families will move to Aspen for two months," said Handler.But not everyone is ready to travel just yet. ATLANTA, Ga. – Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain has been hospitalized after being diagnosed with COVID-19.Cain’s staff announced on Thursday that the 74-year-old businessman was informed on Monday that he had contracted the coronavirus.By Wednesday, Cain had developed symptoms serious enough that he required hospitalization and he was admitted into an Atlanta-area hospital, according to a statement.As of Thursday, staff says Cain is resting comfortably, he is awake and alert, and hasn’t yet required a respirator.“There is no way of knowing for sure how or where Mr. Cain contracted the coronavirus, but we don’t know he is a fighter who has beaten Stage 4 cancer,” the statement reads. “With God’s help, we are confident he will make a quick and complete recovery…”We are sorry to announce that Herman Cain has tested positive for COVID-19, and is currently receiving treatment in an Atlanta-area hospital. Authorities say a seventh grader who died by suicide inside a northeast Ohio middle school bathroom last week planned to carry out an attack on the school.According to Jackson Township Police Chief Mark Brink, the Jackson Memorial Middle School student admired the Columbine shooters and had an eight-step plan to carry out an attack.The boy "intended to conduct a school shooting and harm others," Brink said. On Feb. 20, police responded to Jackson Memorial Middle School in Stark County after receiving a call about a student who had shot himself in the boy's bathroom.According to the medical examiner's office, the boy died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.Security cameras captured the 13-year-old on video coming out of the restroom with a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle he had brought to school under his clothes. As we focus on getting kids safely back to school this year, Nashville-area builders are trying to figure out how to limit the impact of potential future pandemic years down the road, which may require permanently changing the look of new schools, offices, and hospitals."Yes, we are definitely seeing clients ask questions," said Matthew Griffith, an architect with Gould Turner Group."Things like the materials we specify, how cleanable they are, rounded corners in rooms and antimicrobial surfaces," Griffith said.Griffith says with the thought of a future pandemic in mind — segmented spaces could be the norm for new schools."I think you will see a big focus on true flexible space, have demountable partitions and movable walls to where it can be segmented or more individualized on an as-needed basis," Griffith said.And that idea extends beyond school buildings. Griffith says the same can apply to hospitals and other office spaces."I think it's going to be common in a lot of designs to have dedicated spaces for temperature checks and things of that nature," Griffith said.A large building's heating and cooling system will likely be a large focus, according to Griffith. Rather than circulating air throughout the whole building, individual units may be able to keep the air within smaller areas in case of an outbreak.Schools have been through similar kinds of building trends before. In the early 2000s, it was all about security and hindering active shooters.
