Stocks are headed lower in afternoon trading on Wall Street after erasing earlier gains, as investors close out a brutal first quarter. The S&P 500 had a loss of more than 20% for the first three months of the year. The surge of coronavirus cases has sent markets tumbling since mid-February, halting what had been a good start to the year. Stocks have clawed back some of those losses with a rally the past week. Massive aid for the economy and markets from the Federal Reserve and Capitol Hill have helped spur some buying. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished Tuesday down 410 points for the day, ending at 21,917 points. The Dow has lost nearly 8,000 points in the last eight weeks. While many industries saw declines in stock value in Q1 of 2020, the losses were especially pronounced for the travel and oil industries. 846

Rachel Langford's phone has been ringing nonstop since 7-11, when she gave birth to a girl at 7:11 pm, weighing 7 pounds and 11 ounces. But the most exciting call came from 7-Eleven, which celebrated the news of J'Aime Brown's birth by pledging ,111 to her college fund. The convenience store chain previously had called to offer a gift basket with diapers and other merchandise, Langford said. The additional pledge was totally unexpected. When a company representative asked if she was interested, Langford's answer was a resounding yes."I was completely shocked," she told CNN. "I kind of just freaked out."A representative for 7-Eleven confirmed to CNN that the company has pledged the money for J'Amie's college fund, as well as onesies, diapers and other gifts. The young St. Louis family has been in the spotlight since Langford gave birth on 7-Eleven Day, a company holiday marked each year with free Slurpees. They've enjoyed the attention, but Langford says she's mainly focused on her family. In addition to J'Aime, Langford has a 6-year-old son. She says it's not easy juggling bills and providing for her children."It's hard for anybody to even get a trust fund for their children," she said. "To get a blessing like that, it just helps a lot."J'Aime, for her part, appears to be basking in the limelight. She mostly eats and sleeps -- no whining, says Langford."Since the baby's been here, strangely, we've been calm, getting more stuff done," she said. "We've been feeling really good." 1509

TAMPA, Fla. — While spring breakers head to beach communities, some Florida cities are enacting extra measures amid coronavirus concerns. In some areas of Fort Lauderdale, public beaches are closing daily at 4:30 p.m. and bars and restaurants must close before 10 p.m. Miami Beach reportedly enacted similar measures with an 11 p.m. curfew for bars and restaurants, as well as 4:30 p.m. beach closures, including on South Beach. Other states are closing bars and limiting restaurants to take-out only. Florida Governor Ron Desantis praised city leaders for the move and said he'd like to see other beach communities implement the same measures. "I think it’s important that these social distancing measures are implemented so that we are able to prevent infections from running completely out of hand," he said during a news conference Sunday. The concerns surrounding the virus didn't keep people away from Clearwater Beach over the weekend and on Monday, though. "I have auto immune diseases and I am a senior. But I really think as long as I’m very safe and I wash my hands constantly, I will be safe and my family will be safe," said Tricia Wood. Clearwater leaders met Monday to discuss the idea of adding curfews to the beach or closing the sand, but they did not come to a final decision. City leaders plan to discuss with county and state leaders and could make a final decision at Thursday's upcoming city council meeting. Meanwhile, the governor's office reported Visit Florida is re-evaluating tourism promotion messages and developing long term strategies to keep Florida in mind for potential future travelers. 1636
