Andrew Cuomo's new restrictions on schools, businesses and houses of worship in the New York City "cluster zones" that are seeing an uptick in coronavirus cases. Some residents in those "cluster zones" have said the state is unfairly targeting Orthodox Jewish communities as it tries to stamp out hot spots before they spread.Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio have insisted the new restrictions are based solely on science and data around coronavirus-case clusters.Demonstrations turned violent Wednesday night when a journalist was allegedly attacked by a group of protesters he said surrounded him and kicked and hit him.Jacob Kornbluh, who identified himself as a reporter for jewishinsider.com, said hundreds of community members attacked him, calling him a "nazi" and "Hitler." 928

NEW YORK — As people across the world prepare for holiday celebrations, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced new COVID-19 quarantine advisories for those traveling to New York City. The order goes into effect immediately.Amid concerns of a new COVID-19 variant found in the United Kingdom, those traveling from the UK will be personally served a Department of Health Commissioner’s Order to quarantine by the Sheriff’s Office. There will also be a follow-up door knock by the sheriff’s Travel Unit to make sure people are complying, according to the mayor. All other travelers coming to the city will receive a Department of Health Commissioner’s Order to quarantine via certified mail. Those who do not comply will be issued a ,000 fine the first day and another ,000 for each additional day.“If you don’t follow the quarantine, you’re endangering everyone in the city,” Mayor de Blasio said. The mayor also encouraged New Yorkers to avoid traveling during the holidays, stay local and celebrate with their immediate household.“The best gift you can give is to make sure the people you love will be able to gather together and next year in 2021."The new compliance order comes as Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he will be working with several hospitals across the state to test for the new variant to see if it’s already in New York and to “isolate it immediately.”Three airlines that travel from the U.K. to New York have already complied with the governor's request to have passengers test negative before boarding a flight. NEW YORK — The newspaper USA Today says that presidential aide Peter Navarro's column about Dr. Anthony Fauci that it solicited and published did not meet its fact-checking standards. Navarro's column, saying that the nation's top infectious disease expert had been wrong about several key pandemic response policies, ran in Wednesday's newspaper and online a night earlier. USA Today also ran a fact-checking column debunking some of Navarro's claims. The episode is reminiscent of The New York Times disavowing a column by U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton that advocated to sending federal troops to break up protests across the country. The Times' editorial editor, James Bennett, resigned from the paper after running the column. The Times said that Bennett did not read the column before it ran. There's no immediate word on how Navarro's column slipped past standards and whether anyone will be disciplined for it.In an interview with The Atlantic, Fauci called Navarro's column "bizarre," and said that the White House trade expert was "in a world by himself." 1062
Netflix unveiled a new logo on Monday, and while the changes may not seem visible at first glance, the company says the change will save them millions of dollars. That's because the company's new logo is written in a custom-made typeface, a font that Netflix will be using across it's platform and brand identity. The font, called "Netflix sans," was developed in-house at Netflix and designed in partnership with fount foundry Dalton Maag.Previously, Netflix was using a "Gotham" typeface — a font the company was paying to license. Netflix brand design lead Noah Nathan told It's Nice That that "Netflix sans" would "save the company millions of dollars a year." 676
