CHICAGO, Illinois (WGN) — Six people were rescued after an elevator suddenly stopped for several hours in the building formerly known as the John Hancock Center.Around 12:30 a.m. local time Friday, the group was leaving the Signature Room and the elevator was near the 95th floor when two cables broke, causing the elevator to stall near the 11th floor of Chicago’s fourth-tallest building.The elevator ride was faster than normal, those on it said. They later learned they fell 84 floors before their rescue, according to a report by The Chicago Tribune.Fire officials said the elevator was in a "blind shaft", which means there were no door openings.At about 3 a.m., firefighters broke through a brick wall in the parking garage to access the elevator and rescue the group, that included a pregnant woman.No one was injured or needed medical treatment.The John Hancock Center is Chicago's fourth-tallest building. 933

(KGTV) — Homeowners in east Chula Vista are hoping a meeting with police and city leaders will address a number of crime concerns in the area.The meeting started with an idea by Josh Roberts. Roberts lives in the community and was tired of seeing people complaining and reporting crime on Facebook instead of directly to the police department. According to Crimemapping, there were 44 crimes reported from July 5 to August 1 in a two mile radius in the 91915 zip code. The crimes range from burglaries to vehicle thefts to assault. (KGTV) -- Parents at Eastlake High School are asking the Sweetwater Union High School District board to investigate a math teacher that students accuse of making inappropriate comments. The parents say the issue started last spring when the teacher made comments about erectile dysfunction in class. Other parents say the teacher hardly teaches, forcing their kids to fall behind. Dan Huslin, a parent of an Eastlake High sophomore, said the school's principal told him last year the teacher was suspended, but this year he found out he's back in the classroom. Huslin said when he asked about why he returned, the current principal told him the district was providing the teacher counseling to help him improve. On Monday night, parents spoke at a Sweetwater district meeting and asked the board to investigate and remove the teacher. Also, parents asked the district to provide math tutoring for the students who are now behind. A district spokesperson told 10News the teacher was not suspended last year and was instead out for personal reasons, adding that they couldn't comment on whether the teacher is receiving any counseling because it is a personnel matter. (KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized after police said he was stabbed while attempting to sell his car in Chula Vista.The incident happened at an apartment complex parking lot in the 3000 block of Moss Street at around 10 p.m. Monday, according to Chula Vista police.The victim told police he was trying to sell his 2000 Volvo when a potential buyer attacked him during the transaction and then sped off in his car.Police said the victim was stabbed at least once in his neck, and he was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The man accused of fatally stabbing a man during a road-rage dispute in the South Bay is due in court for pre-trial motions Monday. Rickey Smith, 60, is accused of stabbing 36-year-old Horace Williams to death as Williams sat in his van. According to police, the incident happened on November 27, 2018 along Sweetwater Road. Witnesses told police Smith was following Williams’ van as the two yelled at each other. Witnesses told police the maneuver caused the crash. Police say Smith then got out of his truck and stabbed Williams.
