YIMBY for "yes in my backyard." Their solution is for more dense development in urban areas where people can live and work. They also seek legislative reform and developments that help combat climate change."It's basic supply and demand," said member Dike Anyiwo. The city recently passed Mayor Kevin Faulconer's plan eliminating parking requirements near transit centers. And the YIMBYs are getting visits from some key politicians, including Assemblyman Todd Gloria, City Councilmembers Monica Montgomery and Chris Ward, and County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher. Plus, some of its members are now landing spots on city planning groups. Anyiwo is now on the Midway Pacific Highway Community Planning Group. Still, concerns remain that the YIMBY plans could lead to too much crowding for the city's infrastructure. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new study by Zillow shows that homebuyers with lower credit scored pay more for the same homes than buyers with excellent credit scores.According to Zillow, borrowers with excellent credit scores could get a mortgage with a 4.5 percent annual percentage rate.Borrowers with a fair credit score could get a 5.1 percent rate. Over the lifetime of a 30-year mortgage, that means a buyer with a fair credit score may end up paying an additional ,000 over the lifetime of the loan.In San Diego, where the median home value in March of 2018 was 5,300, Zillow estimates that homebuyers with fair credit will pay ,000 for the same home.The difference is only amplified in more expensive markets, Zillow says. In addition, the penalty for lower credit scores tends to be higher."When you buy a home, your financial history determines your financial future," said Zillow senior economist Aaron Terrazas. "Homebuyers with weaker credit end up paying substantially higher costs over the lifetime of a home loan. Of course, homeowners do have the option to refinance their loan if their credit improves, but as mortgage rates rise this may be a less attractive option."Zillow says that even if homeowners don’t pay the full 30-year term on a loan, the annual cost of a lower credit score can still add up to 0 a year. 1346
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new report paints a grim picture of the housing supply in San Diego.According to numbers just released by the Southern California Real Estate Research Council, housing permits in San Diego County dropped by 43% through the first six months of 2019, compared to the same period in 2018.So far this year, there have been 2,037 units of housing permitted in San Diego."We are in deep trouble in housing production," says Borre Winckel, the President of the Building Industry Association of San Diego County. "We can't build the housing for the people that need it most."Winckel says decades of increased costs from state and local fees, regulations, labor costs and more have led to this point. He says it's too expensive for developers to build anything that the average San Diegan can afford. He says that's pushing the "workforce" population of teachers, first responders and military out of the market."There will be homelessness, and there will be more workforce displacement to Temecula and points beyond," says Winckel. "That's all because we have screwed up the regulatory environment that exists to build houses for the people that need them."The numbers show a steady decline in housing construction in San Diego.2015: 6,403 permits2016: 6,0362017: 5,2302018: 4,2862019: 2.037 (so far)Winckel says the only solution is to ease regulations and make it easier for companies to build.According to the report, Santa Barbara had a 40% decline, while Los Angeles and San Bernardino had declines in permits around 20%. 1547
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after police say he stabbed his friend, then returned to watching a UFC fight.The stabbing happened on the 3000 block of Midway Drive around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Police say the two friends took a Lyft from downtown to the Midway District when they got into a fight.After leaving the car, the pair’s argument became even more heated before the suspect, Paul McNett, 43, wrapped his arm around the victim’s neck and stabbed him in the front of his neck.RELATED: Man shot during road rage incident in Del CerroAfter the stabbing, McNett stayed at the restaurant to watch the UFC fight.The 55-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
