SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The United States Attorney’s Office is asking anyone who might have gotten their immigration paperwork “lost” in the mail to please give them a call.Federal prosecutors have contacted 181 potential victims whose documents may have actually been intentionally destroyed by a former United States Postal Service employee in Salt Lake City.Special agents with the USPS identified the suspect as 77-year-old Diana Molyneux from West Jordan.Many of the victims were legal immigrants residing in Utah and Nevada who were waiting for their Permanent Resident Card, commonly referred to as a Green Card.“I pray for her. I really do,” said Eloisa Mendoza, the proprietor of Elko Hispanic Services. “I personally think she knew what was in those envelopes.”Mendoza told KSTU she worked with approximately 60 victims in Elko, Nevada. Whenever a client’s mail had a tracking number, Mendoza said it seemed like the documents always got stuck in Salt Lake City.“It’s really difficult for me to understand why (the suspect) would do something like that,” Mendoza said. “Issues. Personal issues… I do not know her, so I really cannot say if she’s racist or not. To me, I think her issue was just ‘aliens.’”According to Mendoza, some of the victims lost their jobs due to the inability to provide proof of legal residency in the United States. SAN DIEGO — Three teenagers were taken into custody in three separate attempts to smuggle fentanyl across the U.S.-Mexico border, according to federal officials.U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said the incidents occurred on March 30 and 31 at the San Ysidro Port of Entry near San Diego, California.On Friday, CBP agents stopped a 17-year-old Mexican citizen. After noticing an "anomaly" on the teen's back, agents conducted a pat down and found two packages strapped to his back. The packages contained four pounds of fentanyl — a street value of 1,000.The next day, CBP agents stopped two more male teens within 10 minutes of each other: a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old. Both were found to have packages of fentanyl strapped to their backs. The two combined were carrying about nine pounds of drugs, a street value of more than 6,000.The teens in each case were arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A body was found today alongside Interstate 5 in Sherman Heights.A 911 caller reported the discovery next to the northbound lanes of the freeway near Island Avenue about 11:45 a.m. according to the San Diego Police Department. The person's gender and approximate age were not immediately released.After confirming the death, SDPD officers turned the case over to the California Highway Patrol, since the spot where the body was found is within the state agency's jurisdiction.There were no immediate indications of criminal involvement in connection with the fatality. 594

SAN DIEGO — The city of San Diego never waived permit repair fees for sidewalks, despite a January announcement from the mayor's office saying it would do so throughout 2020.A homeowner pays the fees, which total to just over ,000, when he or she elects to repair the sidewalk in front of their home. A spokeswoman for the mayor says, however, that the city had to delay the fee waiver program once the coronavirus outbreak hit. The city instead was forced to cut upwards of million from the general fund budget. "The City continues to prioritize sidewalk repair amid the uncertainty and budgetary impacts that COVID 19 has brought," city spokesman Anthony Santacroce said in a statement. "While COVID-related holds slowed repair down for a few months, we estimate another 10,000 locations will be repaired with concrete slicing this (fiscal year 2021) and we are off to a great start."The news release announcing the fee waiver, however, is still on the city's website.Marie St. George, a Mission Hills resident, saw that announcement and contacted the city. She wanted to spend upwards of ,500 to repair the crumbling sidewalk in front of her home. It's become sort of a hazard."The city has a program to split the construction cost with residents, as both the city and homeowners can be liable for the condition of the sidewalk. St. George, however, was willing to pay all of the cost because she wanted it done faster. However, when she called to get the permits, the city representative said she couldn't waive the fees. "I thought based on the mayor's announcement that it would be waived, so it was pretty shocking," she said. Councilman Mark Kersey, who heads the Active Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, which was moving the fee waiver program forward, said in a statement that he hopes this will be prioritized as money comes available. “Repairs on sidewalks are even more important in the pandemic since so many people depend on them every day," he said.
