 Abortion rates in the United States have dropped to their lowest level in 10 years, according to a report released Wednesday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.From 2006 to 2015, the year of the latest completed survey, reported abortions from participating areas fell 24%, from 842,855 to 638,169.Going back to 1969, the CDC has completed its "abortion surveillance" to measure the number and characteristics of women who obtain legal abortions. Requests for information go out to the central health agencies in all 50 states, plus Washington and New York City. The most recent surveillance included voluntary abortion data from 49 areas, the exceptions being California, Maryland and New Hampshire.What researchers found was a striking decrease from where abortion rates were a decade ago. The number of abortions among women 15-44 went down 26%, from 15.9 to 11.8 abortions per 1,000 women. And the number of abortions per 1,000 live births went down by 19%, from 233 to 188.Compared with the previous year, 2014, there was a 2% decrease in abortions across the three measures.Because reporting is voluntary and requirements for reporting vary across the country, the CDC acknowledges that the findings have limitations. (CNN) -- Apple announced a .5 billion financial package to help address the housing crisis in California, which has worsened in part because of the rapid growth of tech companies.The company laid out a five-point plan, including billion for an affordable housing investment fund, billion in mortgage assistance for first-time home buyers and opening some Apple-owned land valued at 0 million for development. The remaining 0 million will go toward a San Francisco housing fund and to support vulnerable populations.In San Francisco, roughly 7,000 people are homeless. There is a shortage of affordable homes across the Bay Area, which is pushing out middle and low-income workers like teachers and restaurant employees. Robotic surgery is now an option at more hospitals across the country.Patient Matthew Canino says the technology helped his heart.“The nature of being a SWAT officer can be very taxing on your body,” Canino says. “So, you have to be in very good physical condition.”But when Canino trained, he noticed something was off.“My heart would race, primarily when I was working out, it would race,” Canino remembers. “And I'd get short of breath. And I kind of I would just stop what I was doing, and it would go away, and I thought everything was fine.”But it wasn’t. Canino’s doctors found out a valve in his heart was leaking.“He said if it wasn't repaired it would continue to get worse and would likely lead to heart failure,” Canino recalls.He thought he’d have to get open heart surgery. However, his doctor recommended a robot instead.“We can get inside the heart through these keyhole incisions on the side of the chest, without cutting through any bones,” says Dr. Sanjay Tripathi, cardiothoracic surgeon at Swedish Medical Center.Dr. Tripathi inserted this camera and robotic arms inside Canino’s chest, and then he sat down at a console inside the operating room where he controlled the robot to do the surgery.“With the robotic technology, particularly 3D high definition imaging from the camera, we're able to see these fine details that would otherwise be a little bit more difficult,” Dr. Tripathi says.Swedish Medical Center is the only hospital in Colorado offering cardiothoracic surgeries with the aid of a surgical robot. Karen Policastro with recruiting firm Robert Half says potential employers are not showing up for interviews, phone calls or work.Former hiring manager Craig Commings says he’s gotten used to new hires not showing up for the job."It was probably one-third of the time they showed up and two-thirds of the time they didn't," Commings says.A recent survey by Robert Half says 28 percent of people backed out of a job offer. They said it was because they received a better offer from another company.Ghosting is happening more to employers during the hiring process. Policastro says it may seem easier to avoid an awkward situation, but honesty is the best policy.Policastro says, at minimum, send an email updating them on your status. Then tell them, "thank you for the offer, but I have to turn it down."Experts suggest leveraging the better job."You never know when they may come back and say, 'I understand that you have a job offer, let’s see if we can up the ante,' " Policastro says.Job seeker Evan Piedrahita has the right idea, too. "If I got a better offer I would probably email them, let them know and give them a chance trying to increase the salary, benefits and see if they can match that," Piedrahita says.But ghosting works both ways.
