Gloria says it's not enough to get San Diego just back to normal. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rancho San Diego Elementary School Wednesday experienced a water outage as a result of vandalism and theft to pipework. The crime occurred overnight and was discovered as staff entered campus for work Wednesday morning. Maintenance staff repaired the pipework and restored water to campus in three hours. Staff provided students with water during the outage. Hand sanitizer and baby wipes were also given out. 438

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County schools are one step closer to bringing students back to campus. If we get off the state’s watchlist Friday, kids would be allowed back in-person in as soon as two weeks.But, some districts tell ABC 10News they would still need more time.Supervisor Nathan Fletcher hinted at a victory for the county Thursday afternoon.“Yesterday we were below the state guidance, today we’re below the state guidance,” said Fletcher. “Tomorrow if we’re below the state guidance that will remove us from the state monitoring list.”RELATED: San Diego County case rate under watch list threshold for second straight dayThose metrics are based on having fewer than 100 cases per 100,000 residents over two weeks. Social distancing and mask requirements were in place. They tell us over the six-week period they did not have a single case of COVID-19.Superintendent David Miyashiro says even if the county can welcome students back, they would still need time to prepare.“To say we’d be able to open right away, I don’t feel comfortable with that,” said Miyashiro. “The short answer is as soon as possible starting with our most vulnerable students.”San Diego Unified says they’re using their own criteria that goes beyond the state standards. It calls for rigorous contact tracing before they’ll reopen in-person.Escondido Union High School District starts a fully virtual school year on Aug. 25. Many of their top spots offer a view from up high of rolling hillsides in Ramona, wildlife in its natural habitat near Julian, and unique vegetation surrounding Pala.All one needs is their phone and a joy for the outdoors (in addition to hiking essentials).Here's where you can find park rangers' picks and why each trek is a favorite:Wilderness Gardens (14209 Hwy 76, Pala, Calif.): "Take the Upper Meadow Trail 3.2 miles to a large grassy expanse with seasonal wildflowers. Also, look for the foundation of an old grist mill on the County Historic Resource Board’s list of historic places. The foundation is about 0.8 miles into the hike."Agua Caliente (39555 Great Southern Overland Stage Route of 1849, Julian, Calif.): "Keep your eyes open for bighorn sheep as you walk along the Marsh Trail, and snap a selfie about a half a mile in at a palm grove. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are investigating the death of a man they say appeared to have been in an altercation right before his death.SDPD officers responded to a medical distress call just after 2 p.m. Tuesday inside a home at 6600 Springfield Street in Encanto. When police arrived, San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were already there performing CPR on a man.Police say the man was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.Homicide detectives arrived and began investigating. Wednesday, police said investigators learned that the man was involved in a physical altercation and injured before his death. They add that the man had difficulty breathing and collapsed.The 45-year-old man, identified Thursday as Antoine Deonte Dorsey, was a resident of the home and has been identified, but his name is being withheld at this time, police say.Police are now trying to locate witnesses of the altercation.
