SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego City Council President Pro Tem Barbara Bry is calling for an audit of a city-leased building repeatedly shuttered over asbestos.The building at 101 Ash Street was closed Saturday and city employees were relocated for "the next few weeks" over asbestos violations, Bry said in a memo. Bry added that she received an update on June 17, 2019 that the project at the location remained "on schedule and within budget" after she requested an update 10 days prior."It is apparent that 101 Ash Street is neither on-time nor on-budget. At the time of the agreement, city officials wanted to renovate the first two and top three floors, estimated to cost about million, before moving city employees into the building, a city memo said. Officials later said they wanted to renovate all 19 floors, estimating that cost to come at about million for each floor. The costs put the project on hold, leaving the building vacant, City News Service reported.Construction was also stopped over asbestos violations in August 2019.Bry is now asking the city to answer a slew of inquiries over the city's process used to inspect and purchase the building, total costs to-date associated with employee relocations, unforeseen budget increases, subcontractor performance, and the financial impact on the city's Development Services Department."It continues to be frustrating to hear about issues with 101 Ash Street," Bry wrote.Prior to the city leasing the building, the location was occupied by San Diego Gas & Electric from 1968 through 1998, and by Sempra Energy from 1998 through 2015. 1921

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Fire-Rescue Thursday pulled a man to safety who fell 30 feet into a trench on the grounds of a work site at UC San Diego. According to the department, the incident happened just before 3 p.m. on Voit Drive at Matthews Lane. Crews used a pulley system to get the worker, a man in his 20s, out of the trench. He was then taken to UCSD Medical Center for treatment of blunt-force injuries and burns he received when he landed on a steam pipe. His condition is unknown at this time. RELATED: 1 dead, 4 injured in accident at construction site at UC San DiegoNearby workers and an officer were able to climb down and stay with the worker until he could be safely lifted out of the trench.The incident comes after one of five workers injured in a construction site accident died on the UC San Diego campus in July of 2019. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police are investigating how a teenager ended up unconscious near a Walgreens store in Chollas View after her mother reported the girl had been kidnapped.The 13-year-old girl's mother called police shortly after 4 p.m. Monday and said her daughter was supposed to be at a friend’s house, but she later learned her daughter somehow ended up with a man she didn’t know.It is unclear how the woman determined her daughter was with the man.About 20 minutes later, police found the teen unconscious but breathing in the 600 block of Euclid Avenue. She was taken to the hospital, but her condition is unknown.Police said they are looking for the man that was believed with the teen. He is described as Hispanic, in his early 20s, with long hair. He was wearing reading glasses, a white T-shirt and possibly a black baseball cap. 860

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police and Crime Stoppers released photos Wednesday in the search for the burglars responsible for taking half a million dollars’ worth of items during break-in at the Fashion Valley Hermes de Paris store.Up to 10 people got out of three vehicles at the north end of the mall about 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, January 18. Surveillance video shows the group approaching the store and using a pry bar to open the front door.The group stole purses, jewelry and clothing worth 0,000 in just two minutes.RELATED: San Diego mall burglars steal from HermesPolice said the group wore hooded sweatshirts and gloves. The vehicles used for the heist were a white Chevy Suburban and two blue sedans with paper license plates.Investigators conducting follow-ups uncovered new surveillance photos of people they believe to be responsible for the crime.The pictures show three men inside a market.
