SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University students were outraged with the football home opener tailgate at SDCCU Stadium Saturday.This comes after an email was sent last October by the university declaring new rules for tailgates. It reads "students and recognized student organizations with more than 25 people in attendance are required to register for tailgating.""People are bummed but I haven’t heard that many people upset about it," SDSU Freshman Caitlin said.The new form requires organizations to acknowledge kegs, glassware, and underage drinking is prohibited. They also check a box acknowledging failure to follow any of the guidelines could result in citation or arrest as well as loss of tailgating privileges and/or game tickets."I heard it was a little too crazy so they had to dial it back and now they’re making people register," Caitlin said."Last year there were thousands out here, this year there’s hundreds maybe," SDSU Senior Brady McIntyre said in frustration.Multiple students came up to 10News angry with the restrictions and how they stifle greek life.10News spoke with a representative with Student Life at SDSU who said the registration process was to bring more organization and give groups a safer place to hang out. The data means many more Californians will be faced with helping their parents at the same time they’re trying to stash money away for retirement. 10News spoke with experts to take a look at ways to manage. As the population ages, more and more San Diegans will fall into the sandwich generation. Amrine understands. For a decade, she financially supported her mother’s care, which totaled half a million dollars. She says the bulk of the burden falls on families. “Mostly you'll be paying out of your own pocket. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s City Council unanimously approved several measures Tuesday they hope will make it easier for businesses to stay open amid the coronavirus pandemic.The first measure cements Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s executive order allowing some businesses to operate outdoors.The measure allows gyms, barber shops, churches and nail salons to expand business to private parking lots, sidewalks, and on-street parking.“Employees can return to work and families can again participate in programs and support our businesses, if they so desire,” said City Councilmember Chris Cate.Businesses will need to apply for a permit to operate outside, the city says.The second measure reallocates 0,000 from the city’s Small Business Relief Fund toward helping businesses in underserved communities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Saturday, Americans mourned the death of Congressman John Lewis after his battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.Lewis, a Democrat who represented Georgia's 5th Congressional district for 17 years, was part of the "Big Six" civil rights activists who organized the March on Washington in 1963.In San Diego, the civil rights icon is also remembered through two unique ties.RELATED: U.S. flags at half-staff in memory of Rep. John LewisA little more than a year ago, Lewis was donning protective gear to weld his initials into his namesake ship at a San Diego shipyard. On May 13, 2019, Lewis pulled welding gloves over his hands to fuse his initials into the keel plate of the USNS John Lewis at the General Dynamics Shipyard — the lead ship in a class of oiler vessels.Consistent with his commitment to non-violence, the ships will be non-combat vessels but play a vital role in refueling other ships at sea."For the U.S. Navy and former Secretary Ray Mabus to see fit to honor me in this way is unreal and almost unimaginable," Lewis said in a statement last year. "I only try to do what is fair, what is right, and what is just and get in what I call good trouble, necessary trouble.
