SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police have released video footage after officers shot and killed a murder suspect following a standoff on May 29.The 32-year-old suspect who was shot and killed was accused of shooting and killing another man at a City Heights apartment complex.The video shows officer stationed outside the apartment complex. Watch the full video below:According to police, gunfire was reported at the complex on the 3800 block of Euclid Avenue around 3:30 p.m.Officers later found a 62-year-old Hispanic man with at least one gunshot wound. The man was treated before being pronounced dead.Officers were then directed to a nearby complex where the suspect was believed to be hiding while a SWAT team arrived.RELATED: San Diego police officers shoot, kill murder suspect following standoff in City Heights"The suspect walked half way down the stairs towards the officers' positions and challenged them to come get him before retreating back into his apartment," police said.The man then descended back down the stairs towards officers."When the suspect had descended half way down the stairs, he extended a pistol in the direction of the officers. Three officers fired their weapons at the suspect, striking him several times," a San Diego Police Department statement said. "Specially trained STAR medics deployed with the SWAT team to provide aid, but the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. A firearm and a knife were recovered."Earlier in the week, the suspect’s mother reportedly contacted police after he threatened her with a firearm.Police say the women told investigators her son wanted to be involved in a shooting with police and to commit “suicide by cop.” 1700

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans could see a bit of relief from rising housing prices, according to a Zillow housing report.The report claims that 20 percent of listings in June saw a price cut, compared to only 12 percent of homes that had their prices cut a year ago. Similarly, the increase in home values has slowed, and is expected to see even slower growth over the next year.While the rise in home values has seen a slight decrease, they’re still on the rise. The median price in the county is now 3,700, up 6.6 percent from a year earlier."Now with prices being so high, we decided to move to Arizona where prices are more affordable," said Eric Oster, who rents an apartment in the Kearny Mesa area.Zillow expects that rate of appreciation to decline to 4.7 percent by next year. Still, the cooling home price growth is being offset by higher interest rates, which increases monthly payments. "The key is, if you're going to buy a home, the biggest question is - can I afford the payments, and if you're stretching yourself too thin it doesn't matter what the market's doing," said Bridget Potterton, a San Diego Real Estate Broker.The median home value in the US is currently 7,300. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County reported 625 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, the region's second-highest daily increase of cases reported by officials.San Diego County's new cases reported a 6% positive rate out of 10,290 tests. Of the county's cases, 2,180 (9.4%) have needed hospitalization. Health officials add that 2.5% of all cases and 26% of hospitalized cases have been moved to the ICU.An additional six deaths due to COVID-19 were also reported, the county said. The deaths occurred between July 8 and July 16, and included four women and two men whose ages ranged from 60 to mid-90s. All had existing chronic conditions, the county said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Fire-Rescue crews removed a body from Chollas Lake Monday, fire officials said. The man, identified only as Hispanic and in his mid- to late 20s, was found about noon at the lake at 5850 College Grove Drive in the Oak Park neighborhood. Brianna Yasel and her friends were at the lake and realized something was wrong."I couldn't tell what it was; it looked like a rock to me. Once they pulled it out and flipped it over, my friend was able to see the hand at first and it did look like he was under the water for a while. He just didn't look too good," said Yasel."The body was discovered almost in the center of the lake; a passerby said it looked somewhat suspicious. He noticed it moved by an rock cropping," said San Diego Police Lt. Ernesto Servin.San Diego Police are investigating to determine the cause of death and the man’s identity, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. The Medical Examiner was also called to the scene.Chollas Lake, which served as a reservoir from 1901 to 1966, is open during daylight hours for recreation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego and Mountain View community leaders honored the local work of a long-time resident Saturday with an honorary street.Theresa Mae "Mama T" Saunders was a resident and community member in Mountain View, helping with the development of Mountain View Park and its recreation center.In her honor, the city unveiled an honorary street sign above Ocean View Blvd. for Saunders. "Theresa Mae Saunders was a pillar of the Mountain View community," Councilmember Georgette Gómez said.
