Dozens of wildfires are burning throughout California in August as news is emerging that a wildfire burning in Northern California is the largest in state history. The fires burning a few miles apart, known as the Mendocino Complex, started on July 27 and now encompasses an area the size of Los Angeles. 2018 also marks the second straight year California has recorded the state's largest wildfire following the Thomas Fire in 2017. A fire that began Monday is also spreading quickly in Orange County. Known as the Holy Fire, the blaze is tearing through fuel that has been accumulating for 40 years. Currently, nearly 30 wildfires are burning throughout California. DUBLIN, Calif. – Actress Lori Loughlin has surrendered herself to authorities to begin her two-month prison sentence for her involvement in the college admissions scam.NBC News and The Associated Press report that Loughlin reported to the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin, California, on Friday to be processed.The former “Full House” star showed up early. EL CAJON (CNS) - A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed in El Cajon, authorities said Friday morning.Officers responded to the intersection of Washington and South Orange avenues about 11 p.m. Thursday, where they found a woman in her 50s with significant head injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lt. Jeremiah Larson of the El Cajon Police Department.An investigation determined the woman was crossing the road when she was struck by the vehicle traveling westbound on Washington Avenue, Larson said. It was unclear whether the woman was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.Alcohol or drugs were not considered factors in the crash, he said, but no other details were released.The name of the victim was not disclosed. 771
