WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump said Thursday that he will soon sign an executive order that will establish a commission to promote "patriotic education" in schools. He said it will be called the “1776 Commission,” named after the year the United States was founded.“It will encourage our educators to teach our children about the miracle of American history and make plans to honor the 250th anniversary of our founding,” said Trump during a speech at the National Archive Museum on Constitution Day.Trump also announced that the National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a grant to support the development of pro-American curriculum that he says celebrates the truth about the nation’s history.“The only path to national unity is through our shared identity as Americans,” said Trump. “That is why it is so urgent that we restore patriotic education to our schools.”During his speech, Trump took aim, again, at The 1619 Project, an initiative developed by The New York Times Magazine in 2019. And the CEOs are being put on notice about potential restrictions that may be coming. Some lawmakers are looking to challenge the companies' long-enjoyed bedrock legal protections for online speech. The protections stem from Section 230 of a 1996 communications law. Senators in the hearing extracted promises from Twitter's Jack Dorsey, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and Google's Sundar Pichai that their companies will take needed measures to help ensure election security.Sen. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Amid reports that the FDA is considering tougher standards for the authorization of a COVID-19 vaccine, President Donald Trump claimed Wednesday that the White House could override that decision.The Washington Post and CNN report that the FDA is expected to roll out the new standard for emergency authorization of a vaccine soon, which would make it exceedingly difficult for a vaccine to be cleared by Election Day.The FDA is expected to issue the guidance to increase transparency and public trust in the potential vaccine, The Post reports. WASHINGTON D.C. (KGTV) -- Legislation introduced Thursday would block immigration enforcement actions at schools, hospitals and religious institutions, among other places. According to a news release, the “Protecting Sensitive Locations Act” codifies the Department of Homeland Security’s existing policies. The act requires that, with the exception of special circumstanced, ICE agents receive prior approval from a supervisor before engaging in enforcement actions at sensitive locations. RELATED: Acting ICE director says immigration raids are 'absolutely going to happen'The legislation also requires ICE agents to receive annual training and report annually regarding enforcement actions in those locations. The legislation was introduced by Senators Kamala Harris and Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, as well as 14 of their colleagues. “The priority of law enforcement officers should be promoting the safety of the communities they protect, not rounding up immigrants at schools, hospitals, and places of worship,” Harris said in part.
