Northwestern University in the Chicago suburb of Evanston was under a lockdown order for nearly an hour after reports came in Wednesday afternoon of a person on campus with a gun and shots fired. It turns out that the whole incident was a hoax. According to ABC News, an Evanston Police official said that the report was a swatting incident. The emergency call to police claiming there was a gunman on Northwestern's campus came from out of state.  Swatting pranks have been taking place in recent years involving a call to police prompting a SWAT unit to respond to a person's home. The prank sometimes end up being deadly. In December, a 28-year-old Kansas man was shot and killed by police after a prankster claimed the man was holding his family hostage after shooting his father. When police arrived, the man reached for a waistband, causing police to kill the man. It turns out he was unarmed, and the call came from 1,400 miles away. Northwestern University originally reported that a person with a gun was located near Engelhart Hall. Evanston Police said that several streets nearby were closed. After an initial search, Evanston Police said they could not find any victims, gunmen or crime scene. Students and employees were being told to seek shelter around 2:40 p.m. local time. An hour after the initial lockdown order, Northwestern said that only those in Englehart Hall remained in shelter. An all clear was given shortly after 4 p.m. local time.  1540

NEW YORK (AP) — Curt Schilling, Roger Clemens, and Barry Bonds are the leading candidates returning to baseball's Hall of Fame ballot in a year without any favorites among the new names. Schilling was third behind Derek Jeter and Larry Walker with 278 of 397 votes last year, finishing at 70% and 20 votes shy in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Clemens had 242 votes for 61% and Bonds 241 for 60.7%. Pitchers Barry Zito, Tim Hudson, Mark Buehrle, and A.J. Burnett, and outfielder Torii Hunter are among the top newcomers on the ballot.To get into the Hall of Fame, you must receive 75% of the votes.According to the Associated Press, Bonds and Clemens were favorites to get into the Cooperstown, but since they have been suspected of steroid use, the likelihood of getting in is diminishing. Clemens denies using performance-enhancing drugs, and Bonds said he never knowingly took PEDs.All three will be making their ninth appearance on the BBWAA ballot this year, one short of the limit, the AP reported.Per the AP, voting will be announced on Jan. 26 and inductions will be made on July 25. NIWOT, Colorado — The last of Crocs Inc.'s manufacturing facilities, located in Italy, is going to close, the company announced.It also closed its plant in Mexico. Crocs leaders did not give information on how it will continue producing its products during its second-quarter earnings report this week.The company grew its second-quarter earnings and revenue by 4.7 percent year-over-year. But Crocs Inc. is operating fewer stores.The company has not said if it plans to shutter more stores in the U.S. It expects revenue to increase, in the single digits, by the year's end. The cost of closing the manufacturing facilities in 2018 is million, the Daily Camera reports.Crocs Inc.'s chief financial officer, Carrie Teffner, plans to resign from the company effective April 1, 2019. NEW YORK (AP) — Lawyers for the Girl Scouts say that the century-old organization is now directly competing with the Boy Scouts for female recruits and that it's not a fair fight. The lawyers filed papers Thursday in federal court in Manhattan to repel an effort by the Boy Scouts to toss out a 2-year-old trademark infringement lawsuit. Lawyers for the Boy Scouts last month asked a judge to reject claims that the organization is infringing on trademarks when it recruits girls with words like “scouts" and “scouting.” The Girl Scouts say in their filing that the Boy Scouts' marketing of expanded services for girls is “highly damaging.” 648
