A hospital in Orange County, California was locked down Tuesday morning after police said someone at the facility called and claimed to have a gun.The incident was reported just after 8:15 a.m. local time at the Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, police said.Santa Ana police said they received a call from someone inside the hospital claiming to be in possession of a gun. The caller did not say anything further, police said.The hospital was locked down as a precaution while about 40 officers conducted a floor-to-floor search, including the facility’s basement and roof.  608

A bus carrying 50 people overturned in northern Mississippi on Wednesday afternoon, killing two on board, ABC News reported citing a local coroner. According to ABC News, heavy sleet coated roadways in the area, which may have been a factor in Wednesday's accident. Interstate 269 was closed in both directions near the site of the crash. WREG-TV reported that 46 people were on board the bus at the time of the accident. The bus was chartered in a route from Huntsville, Alabama to Tunica, Mississippi. 531

A Colorado man is changing the next chapter of history by helping his local library buy more books about Black history and cultural diversity.Kevin Gebert retired from the aerospace industry six years ago and started a nonprofit for minority children, but when COVID-19 shut down schools, he found himself with extra time. He used the spare time to read "The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration" by Isabel Wilkerson. It's a book filled with lessons on Black history."I read this book and by the time I got a quarter of the way through it, I thought about the impact this book could have on school kids, adults," Gebert said.His curiosity took him to the Louisville Public Library, where he discovered the book selection on race and cultural diversity was slim. Gebert said the library only had one copy of "The Warmth of Other Suns," and 16 people were on a wait list."It will probably be into next year before everyone has had a chance to read it," he said.He launched a fundraiser with the library to expand the collection of culturally diverse books, books about Black history, race and equality.With the help of friends, Gebert compiled a list of 20 books to add to the library collection."(Library staff) are going to go through the list of books that were recommended and they will make the decision as to how many they buy," he said. A fatal crash that closed the westbound lanes of I-696 near Detroit Tuesday involved a driver who ran out of gas on the side of the freeway. The Michigan State Police said a driver that ran out of gas was parked on the right shoulder. His father came to the scene to bring gas. As the driver was filling his tank with gas, and his father sat in his car with the child of the stranded driver, another driver on the freeway lost control and hit both vehicles. The driver filling his tank was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car that lost control sustained minor injuries. MSP said the suspect driver is in custody and a blood draw was performed at a nearby hospital. There are no indications of alcohol or drugs at this time, said MSP. Speed does appear to be a factor, MSP said. The freeway reopened shortly before 5:30 p.m. 897

A glitch to the IRS' e-file portion of its website prompted the IRS to push back the deadline to file taxes from today (April 17) to tomorrow (April 18). The IRS said that both individuals and businesses can take advantage of the extra filing day without penalty. “This is the busiest tax day of the year, and the IRS apologizes for the inconvenience this system issue caused for taxpayers,” said Acting IRS Commissioner David Kautter. “The IRS appreciates everyone’s patience during this period. The extra time will help taxpayers affected by this situation.”The IRS said that during the system outage, taxpayers were able to file their tax returns electronically through their software providers and Free File.Taxpayers using paper to file and pay their taxes at the deadline were not affected by the system issue, the IRS said. The glitch shuttered part of the IRS' website, not allowing some who file taxes online to complete their taxes.
