Once every 20 years, Jupiter and Saturn nearly cross paths in the sky, and this year, the two largest planets in the solar system will cross paths during the winter solstice.WATCH LIVE: The Lowell Observatory in Arizona has clear skies of the event. You can watch it live starting at 7 p.m. ET by clicking here. According to EarthSky, the two planets will be just .1 degree apart at their closest point on December 21. Being so close, the two planets will appear to be roughly the same size as one-fifth a full moon.According to EarthSky, the December 2020 conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn is the closest the two planets have been to each other in the night sky since 1623.However, people back then were not able to see the celestial event, because of its proximity to the sun, according to Amy Oliver, a spokeswoman for the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Oliver told The Boston Globe that the last time people would have noticed two planets coming together this closely would have been in 1226, during the Middle Ages, nearly 800 years ago.Scientists say the two planets will appear in the early evening sky for the rest of 2020 and Jupiter will be the brightest object in the western sky for the rest of the year. 1238

Ohio and Michigan. Two states with intense rivalries, however when you visit, you can't help but think how much they are the same. With a combined 34 electoral college votes, both are swing states that will decide this election. Both have experienced economic hardship in recent decades and both still rely on the auto industry for jobs. Ahead of the first debate in nearby Cleveland, what are the candidates doing for the auto worker?UNION DEBATE"I am the president of UAW Local 14," Tony Toddy proudly says from his office in Toledo. Toddy, who has been with the UAW for years, recently took over the post. "We like Joe because we know Joe," Toddy says, speaking of the UAW endorsement of Joe Biden. Toddy believes Biden would listen to unions more if elected president. Toddy does not like the new trade agreement, USMCA, which President Donald Trump signed into law earlier this year. "It’s just NAFTA 2.0. Where are the jobs?" Toddy said. But Trump supporters say wait a minute. "I've worked for Ford Motor Company for 24 years," Terry Bowman, who serves as co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party, said. "The American worker deserves four more years of a Trump presidency," Bowman said. Bowman said while union leadership maybe backing Biden, many on the assembly line are backing Trump. Bowman says workers like Trump's tough tough talk and believe his new trade deal is better than the alternative. ON THE ISSUESSo how do the candidates want to help the auto industry? Biden wants to shift 300,000 government cars from gas to electric, believing government investments would generate 1 million new jobs. Trump says his new USMCA trade deal will create 100,000 new jobs and that his rollback of environmental regulations will result in cheaper cars. At Inside the Five Brewery near the Michigan/Ohio line, patrons are divided heading into the debate. "I am for Biden," Marge Mizer, said. "I like an upfront person that’s going to tell me the truth," Mizer said. Meanwhile David Bartlett says he wants Trump to send a message. "I want to see President Trump destroy Joe Biden in the debate," Bartlett said. 2123

On November 26, 2003, Centra “CeCe” Mazyc says she was doing a routine jump in the Army when the wind caused her parachute to collide with another jumper and as she hit the ground, she was instantly paralyzed from the waist down.Mazyc is one of nearly 5 million disabled American veterans, but she's hardly let her serious injury hold her back.Through the help of the nonprofit Disabled American Veterans, she was able to get back into her athletic nature.“It was the first time in my injury that I was able to do things like ski and walk, climb and scuba dive, things that I didn't know that I’d ever be able to do,” said Mazyc. “So, that was an important step in my rehabilitation process, and it proved to me that physical disability does not bar the doors to freedom at all, not mine.”That support and Mazyc’s competitive drive took her all the way to the 2012 Paralympic Games, where she threw the javelin.Disabled American Veterans helps more than 1 million veterans a year with things like access to education, health care and employment. They also provided unemployment financial relief during the pandemic to laid off veterans.Disabled American Veterans produced a new documentary around 100 years of war and wounded servicemen and women. It's called “The Battle Never Ends.” It airs on the Military HISTORY Channel and on-demand. 1346

One of the most iconic signs of the holiday season is coming earlier this year. The Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle Campaign is kicking off now. It normally starts around Thanksgiving. The pandemic has created several new challenges though.“The Salvation Army has seen an extraordinary increase in the amount of need in America,” said Commissioner Kenneth Hodder, National Commander of The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army expects requests for assistance over the holidays will increase 155%. That means helping an additional 4 million families. On top of that, less people are going into stores on-foot. Also, less people are carrying spare change because of an national coin shortage. You can donate online or by texting KETTLE to 91999. The money stays in your community.“So, individuals are always giving to their neighbors,” said Hodder. “When they give to the Salvation Army, 82 cents of every dollar that comes in will go directly to those in need.”The Red Kettle funds help families pay for rent, food, clothes and toys.Donations have been steadily declining over the last few years. You can visit RescueChristmas.org to see the ways to donate and volunteer. 1173
