SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego student Emily Benkes says her mother has lived in their Carmel Mountain home for 32 years, never once feeling unsafe in the neighborhood.Tuesday, Benkes came home to a ransacked house. “We had our laptops out, I had some money on my desk, Xbox was gone, my Apple TV,” said Benkes. Benkes believes the person hopped their backyard fence, coming in from a nearby trail. Food was missing from the fridge, including a package of salami which they later found on the trail. The suspect entered the home by throwing a rock through the back window and climbing in. “I felt really violated, I couldn’t even go in my room just because I kept thinking that there was somebody in here going through my stuff,” Benkes.She posted what happened on Nextdoor, and now neighbors are trying to help; one neighbor believes their surveillance video captured someone hopping the fence. “I hope we catch this person and nobody else has this happen to them,” said Benkes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police say there may be more victims of a sexual assault suspect arrested last month.Juan Carlos Cordero, 35, was arrested on March 21 for multiple sexual assaults, police say. Based on the evidence though, police are looking other possible victims or persons with information.The crimes may have occurred between early 2015 and March 2019.Cordero is currently in custody and being held on million bail.He's described as a Hispanic male, about 6-feet tall, weighing 185 pounds, with neck length brown hair and unshaven. He also may have identified himself as "JC."Police said Cordero would approach intoxicated women at bars and nightclubs and convince them to go back to his apartment or hotel, where he sexually assaulted them. SDPD added he may have met women through online dating apps, where "he meets us with them, has them consume alcohol and/or drugs, and sexually assaults them." The meeting comes days after Governor Gavin Newsom released a mandate saying students can only return to campus when the county has been off the state’s watchlist for two weeks.The discussion focused on tackling challenges for the upcoming school year. All four districts say one of the main issues is a lack of funding.“I listened to the governor speaking about how money has come to school districts,” said Dr. Katie McNamara, superintendent of South Bay Union School District. “It’s good to note that none of that money has arrived yet.”She says they’ve had to dip into the district’s general funds to pay for things like PPE and improving distance learning models.Cajon Valley reopened in-person summer programs last week and say they will be staying open.The County Office of Education says the governor’s order does not apply to camps or day cares.“We have almost 5,000 students on campus, today, right now in a version of summer school that we're calling child care.”The Chula Vista Elementary Union superintendent, Dr. Francisco Escobdedo says they’re paying close attention to testing.“In order for us to feel safe our contagion levels have to lower, the curve has to plateau.”Escobedo adds they’re working on providing more internet hot spots for families who need it. 1446

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s City Council Monday approved a key step in turning Horton Plaza into The Campus at Horton. At Monday night’s meeting, the council approved reducing the current retail deed restriction on the property, creating the opportunity to build the office space. The campus would combine employment, entertainment and retail. According to a news release, the office space would be large enough for 3,000 to 4,000 jobs.
