CHANGZHOU, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Saturday called for more favorable policies to encourage the construction of affordable housing.Li made the remarks at a meeting on affordable housing held in Changzhou city of east China's Jiangsu Province.He reiterated that China would complete construction of 5.8 million units of affordable housing, including low-rent housing, public rental housing and resettlement housing for relocated residents from redeveloped urban shanty towns.In May, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development signed an agreement with local governments nationwide to build 5.8 million units of affordable housing."Meanwhile, measures should be taken to increase the supply of commercial housing to meet people's reasonable needs of housing consumption," he said.He said local governments should adopt a realistic approach to affordable housing construction and plans should be based upon local needs.For populous cities, construction should focus on public rental housing that provides homes for low- and medium-income families, newly-employed school graduates and migrant workers, he said.

BEIJING, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese chartered planes carrying 195 Chinese nationals who were evacuated from Kyrgyzstan arrived at an airport in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region early Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry said.The Chinese government dispatched the two Boeing 737-700 passenger planes late Monday to bring back Chinese nationals living in southern Kyrgyzstan, where ethnic clashes has left more than 120 dead.The first plane landed at 4:25 a.m. (Beijing Time) and the second, 5:20 a.m.(Beijing Time), according to Chinese diplomats waiting at the airport.The government dispatched two working groups to Kyrgyzstan and Urumqi on Monday for the evacuation task.A chartered plane of China Southern Airlines gets ready to take off at the airport in Urumqi, northwest of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on June 14, 2010. BEIJING, June 18 (Xinhua) -- China's fiscal risk is controllable as it aims for a balanced economy, a senior finance official said Friday in a call for "growth-friendly" fiscal consolidation of the world economy."According to some indicators, the fiscal risk China is facing is controllable, and China's fiscal development retains sound momentum," said Vice Finance Minister Zhu Guangyao at a news briefing on the fourth Group of 20 (G20) summit.China's budget deficit accounted for 2.9 percent of GDP in 2009 and was expected to stand at 2.8 percent this year, said Zhu."Even facing healthy and sound momentum, the Chinese government attaches importance to balanced and stable economic development," said Zhu.Fiscal consolidation would be a major topic at the Toronto summit, and the G20 leaders would discuss how to maintain robust, sustainable and balanced economic growth, said Zhu.Some European Union (EU) member states have announced austerity plans to cut public deficits in a bid to restore investor confidence in their economies and in the euro, but the fiscal consolidation measures have drawn strong opposition.Zhu said the global economy was undergoing gradual recovery, but still facing some uncertainties, especially with the European debt crisis.
