Her hands are full — but her thinking is straightforward as back-to-school begins.“Make sure we’re flexible so that our kids are flexible because we are going to be the dictators of how our kids feel,” Rea said. “Even if we feel a certain way, that we just roll with the punches and don’t let our kids sense our own frustration because they need to learn.”One thing that might frustrate parents is school supply shopping — so different this year than ever before."The number one thing you’re going to need this year are masks, right?” said Rachel Krych, who runs the blog “Couponing with Rachel.”She said every store has masks readily available now, at all price points.From bulk buys on Amazon to mix and match at Old Navy.“Also your neighbor down the street probably makes homemade masks so I think masks in general, you’ll be able to find a lot of,” Krych said.She also says to look for what are called “loss leaders” to save some cash on common things on the supply list.“Loss leaders are a drastically reduced item that you can buy every week at every store and they’re usually about 5 to 10 of these,” Krych said. “For instance, like 25 cent crayons or a five-pack of glue sticks.”If you have your list and shop those loss leaders specifically over the next three or four weeks, you’ll be able to stock up at better prices.As for where to buy — Krych said the big names have the best deals — Target, Walmart, Meijer’s, Marc’s, Staples, even Aldis.You might also need to add a sturdy backpack to the list since Krych said she’s seen some schools implementing “no-locker” rules.For Carrie and her kids, back to school also means practicing things that aren’t on the syllabus.Constant hand washing at home so they’re ready in class, trying on different masks to make sure they fit and are comfortable, and even rethinking what we’ve always been taught — sharing is caring.“We had to parent in a totally different way and say ‘You’re not being mean - but for the time being, you have to keep whatever you have It’s yours and you have to keep it to yourself.’” Rea explained. “Still be polite and mannerly to everyone around you, but understand you can’t share.”And when it comes to things like disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer, several districts in Northeast Ohio tell News 5 they hope parents can contribute but understand if they can’t. PEORIA, AZ - An Amber Alert for a 2-year-old girl abducted from Peoria Monday morning has been canceled after the girl was found safe several hours later. According to Peoria police, Khaleesi Morales was taken by her non-custodial father, 32-year-old Luis Jesus Morales, around 6 a.m. from a residence near Lake Pleasant and Beardsley roads.Luis is the defendant on an Order or Protection not to have contact with the girl or her mother. According to officials, Luis was arrested and booked into jail by Peoria police Sunday night after violating that Order of Protection, but was released at 5:14 a.m. on Monday.Police said Luis went to the child's Peoria home Monday morning, opened a window, broke the screen out, stepped on his young son's hand and assaulted the mother before taking Khaleesi. He reportedly stole the mother's vehicle and headed southbound on Lake Pleasant Road. Police say there were several box knives in the stolen vehicle. An Amber Alert was issued around 8 a.m. Monday for Khaleesi.Around 1 p.m., police said the Peoria SWAT team was able to locate the girl and Luis at a business near 99th Avenue and Beardsley Road, just a short distance from where the toddler was abducted. Khaleesi was "safe and unharmed" and was asking for her mother. Luis was taken into custody without incident.Khaleesi was reunited with her mother at the Peoria Police Department Monday afternoon. Luis is being charged with kidnapping, burglary, aggravated assault, violation of a court order and auto theft. Police say a St. Louis police officer who was shot in the head while responding to a shooting remains in critical condition. St. Louis Police Department spokeswoman Officer Michelle Woodling says a second officer who was shot in the leg was treated and released after the shooting around 6 p.m. Saturday in the South Grand neighborhood. The gunman barricaded himself inside a home and police negotiated with him for nearly 12 hours before the 43-year-old was taken into custody Sunday morning. Police have released no details about his arrest. The gravely injured officer is 29 years old and has been on the force 3 1/2 years. 634

Police in southwest England say two people are in critical condition and are being treated "for suspected exposure to an unknown substance." PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. – Two sets of sisters graduated Marine Corps recruit training together, further strengthening their bonds.The Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) in Parris Island, South Carolina, says one set includes Virginia sisters Ashley and Amber Valentine, while the other is comprised of Maria, Vanessa and Melissa Placido Jaramillo, who grew up in Nevada.According to MCRD, the Valentine sisters joined shortly after their grandfather passed away and wanted to carry on his legacy in the U.S. armed services.Ashley, 19, and Amber, 22, say having each other to rely on through training helped during some of their highest highs and lowest lows.“I went through a moment during first phase where I received some bad news in a letter, and she was there to be a shoulder for me to lean on,” Amber said in a press release posted to MCRD’s Facebook page.However, the Valentines won’t be attending combat training together, because Ashley suffered a hip fracture prior to graduation and must heal. After combat training, Amber plans to serve in the communications field and Ashley will be certified as a motor transportation operator.As for the Placido Jaramillo family, Maria, Vanessa and Melissa made a pact to join the military together when they were young children, according to MCRD. Melissa and Vanessa, both 22, are identical twins. Maria is a year younger than them at age 21.During recruit training, Melissa says the sisters succeeded thanks to friendly competition and daily positive affirmation.MCRD says the three sisters have yet to find out what military occupational specialty they will be assigned but are looking forward to what the Marine Corps has in store for them.
