No new deaths were reported on Friday, as the death toll sits at 996.The new case totals come as public and federal health officials urge the public to keep gatherings limited and small this Thanksgiving and not to travel.Hospitalizations in the county remained at 580 on Friday, while ICU cases rose slightly from 166 to 173 — both of which have nearly doubled since a month earlier, according to the county's data.There were 82 community outbreaks in San Diego County as of Friday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are investigating reports of a person being shot in the Mount Hope area Friday.San Diego Police said they were investigating reports that a 27-year-old Hispanic man showed up to Scripps Mercy Hospital with gunshot wounds just before 2 p.m. The man was rushed into surgery for life-threatening injuries.Soon after, police responded to the scene of 41st and C streets to investigate the location of the reported shooting.SDPD said based on the evidence gathered, the victim was in an altercation with man when gunshots rang out. The suspect they are searching for is a Hispanic male adult, approximately 29-30 years old who fled the area in a green pickup truck. He was last seen wearing a blue and yellow hat and a green jersey.The vehicle was last seen fleeing southbound on 41st St.SDPD Gang Detectives are investigating the shooting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer Monday announced new limitations on public gatherings, as well as bar closures and restaurant restrictions. In the announcement, Faulconer echoed an declaration made earlier in the day by county health and elected officials. During that news conference, county officials announced that they would legally enforce new public health orders over COVID-19. Faulconer said he signed an executive order forcing all bars and nightclubs to close to the public. "This is not optional, this is mandatory," Faulconer said. During the news conference, Faulconer discouraged residents from attending any non-essential gatherings. The order takes effect at 11:59 p.m. Monday and will last through March 31, unless otherwise extended. The city is set to maintain police, fire, water, trash and sewage services. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego health officials are working with UCSD to notify people who may have been exposed to tuberculosis at the school’s La Jolla campus.According to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, the period of potential exposure was between January 25 through May 15. Those who are known to have been exposed were notified.“Testing is recommended for all those exposed to assure they are not infected, since they may not have symptoms,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. "For anyone infected, early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent disease.”Tuberculosis is transmitted from person to person through indoor air during prolonged contact. Most people who are exposed do not become infected.Symptoms of TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexpected weight loss.No-cost testing will be provided those identified starting May 30 at the campus Student Health Center on Library Walk.The number of annual cases of TB has decreased since the early 90s and has stabilized in recent years. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Fire Urban Search and Rescue task force is on their way to Hawaii to prepare for Hurricane Lane's landfall.The hurricane could bring as many as 20 inches of rain onshore and winds of more than 100 miles per hour.The search and rescue task force is traveling with 55,000 pounds of equipment, hoping to get ahead of the hurricane before it makes landfall.The crew will land in Kauai and then get deployed to wherever help is needed. For the first 72-hours, they must be completely self-sufficient, relying on MRE's and having enough water to survive.The team could be in Hawaii for as long as three weeks but it's expected they will return in 14 days. 692
