In terms of students, 9 million schoolchildren are not able to do remote learning at home, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.In Marion County, Tennessee, about 30% of the county's 4,000 students did not have internet access when the pandemic began. Director of Schools Mark Griffith said they relied on hand-delivering paper lesson packets."We would actually take some food and some of the packets out to the rural areas daily," Griffith said.In order to address the problem, the district set up several mobile hotspots throughout the county, including in the parking lots of some of their schools and the school district office. The hotspots seemed to help, as it reduced the number of students without internet access to below 20%.Yet, the district knows it can't reach everyone. This fall, instead of relying solely on internet access, teachers will save recordings of class lessons onto flash drives and hand them out to students who don't have internet access."They will be able to pick up that recording," Griffith said. "They will be a week behind, but we understand that."It's a short-term solution to a long-term problem that Allen Pratt believes will need major funding from federal and state governments to fix."Our school systems need to help, obviously, and be a part of it, but they shouldn't be in the business of providing broadband," Pratt said. (KMGH) -- Police in Colorado say a couple accused of using stolen credit cards to rack up thousands of dollars in fraudulent charges had no problem bringing two young kids along."People using their children to shoplift, it's not something we see a lot of, but it's always very disappointing," said Mark Techmeyer, a spokesperson with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.Deputies said the unidentified couple stole a purse from a woman's car that was unlocked in the parking lot at Fairmont Elementary School in Lakewood. It happened on Sept. 15 around 3:30 p.m. local time.Within minutes of stealing the purse, investigators said the suspects began using the victim's credit cards."It happens very fast because they know the cards get canceled really quick," Techmeyer said.Deputies said the couple used the stolen cards to go on a three-day spending spree, fraudulently buying liquor, clothes, electronics, gas and food.Surveillance photos from a Kohl's store in Arvada showed the couple's two young kids with them as they checked out. KOHLER, Wis. – Two major golf tournaments have been postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.The PGA announced Wednesday that the Ryder Cup has been rescheduled for September 21-26, 2021 at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. With that help has come an increase in the number of women freezing eggs and embryos.The Centers for Disease Control recently released preliminary numbers for 2016, the latest data available for assisted reproductive technology, or ART, because it takes two years to finalize births and verify data.The data was collected from 463 reporting clinics in the US.There were 76,930 babies born in 2016 as a result of fertility treatments. About 11,000 of those were sets of twins.Of the 263,577 ART cycles (the two-week process of stimulating egg production with the intent to transfer embryos), 65,840 were done so to freeze all resulting eggs or embryos for future pregnancy attempts.The CDC points out the use of assisted reproductive technology is relatively rare, “its use has doubled over the past decade” resulting in 1.7 percent of all infants born in the United States every year are conceived using ART.One of the reporting clinics is Midwest Reproductive Center in Olathe, Kansas.Dr. Dan Gehlbach started the practice in 2004 and has been a reproductive endocrinologist for 25 years.
