SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A hit-and-run driver struck a motorcyclist early Wednesday morning in the Fairmont Village neighborhood, leaving the rider with a broken leg, police said.The crash was reported around 12:10 a.m. at the intersection of Lantana Drive and Euclid Avenue, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A 33-year-old man was riding a Yamaha motorcycle northbound on Euclid Avenue when a vehicle pulled out from Lantana Drive and struck the right side of the motorcycle, Buttle said.The rider was taken to a hospital for treatment of a fractured tibia and fibula, the officer said.The suspect vehicle, described as a white Honda sedan, was last seen heading southbound on Euclid Avenue, Buttle said.A description of the hit-and-run driver was not immediately available. 784

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed during a fight in the College Area, police said Thursday.The stabbing was reported shortly before 7:35 p.m. Wednesday at a home near 71st Street and Mohawk Street, about two blocks north of El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego police Lt. Matt Dobbs said.Officers responded and found a man suffering from at least one stab wound to his upper torso, Dobbs said. The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:56 p.m. Wednesday.Investigators determined the victim was hosting a gathering at the residence when some a disagreement began, prompting the him to ask people to leave, the lieutenant said. About 30 minutes later, some of the attendees returned and a fight broke out, during which the victim was stabbed.The suspects drove off in two vehicles, one described as a silver sedan and the other as a tan- or gold-colored sedan, Dobbs said.No detailed descriptions of the suspects were immediately available. 1043

SAN DIEGO — A couple who evacuated from the Woolsey Fire in Los Angeles says their Airbnb hosts kicked them out of their unit and cleaned out all their belongings, forcing them to live with relatives in San Diego.Ben and Jessica Wells said they rented out the Airbnb unit in July, paying in advance through May.The newlywed couple had been living there as they searched for a home to buy.It was a studio apartment located in West Hills, a community on the western edge of the San Fernando Valley, which backed up to where the Woolsey Fire was burning.“I could see the fire burning on the hill. I saw the smoke,” said Ben, who got an evacuation alert on his phone while at the gym.He went home to meet his wife, frantically packing up some important belongings.“We were not trying to check out of the place at all. Obviously things were a mess, clothes were everywhere. We were just trying to basically make sure we had everything we needed just in case everything burnt,” said Jessica.After they left, the Airbnb hosts contacted them to see if they could go inside the unit and turn off the lights. Ben said he agreed to let them in for that purpose.But once inside, owners Larry and Jeri Hannah said they were shocked by what they saw.“I don’t even know how they were living there,” said Larry. “We couldn’t believe the mess we saw.”In addition to the clothes scattered about, the Hannahs say the grout on the tile floor in the bathroom had been stained black. They said the walls needed painting and some of the flooring needed to be replaced.“When It became obvious that we weren’t going to let them come back then we just decided we were going to clean it up because we didn’t want to leave it like that,” said Larry.In order to do that, they removed all of the Wells’ belongings and told them the rest of their reservation had been canceled.The Wells said they agreed to pay through the end of November if they could keep their stuff there. But when Ben arrived on November 17, he said he was surprised to see their belongings strewn across the property.Expensive recording equipment had been left outside, he said. Other belongings had been thrown in trash bags. Some appeared to be missing.“At that point I was in shock, just completely shaken,” said Ben.He grabbed what he could find, not knowing that more of their belongings had been stored in a shed on the property.“Their stuff is all still here,” said Larry.In a statement, a spokesperson with Airbnb wrote, “We are urgently investigating this incident to better understand what happened. There have been more than 400 million guest arrivals in Airbnb listings to date and negative incidents are extremely rare.”  2704

SAN DIEGO – Delegates at the California Democratic Party State Convention failed to endorse any candidates for U.S. Senate, governor and attorney general, denying Dianne Feinstein endorsement in her bid to stay seated in the U.S. Senate. The indecision sent shock through the party with 54 percent of the vote going to state Senate leader Kevin de Leon and 37 percent for Feinstein."The outcome of today's endorsement vote is an astounding rejection of politics as usual, and it boosts our campaign's momentum as we all stand shoulder to shoulder against a complacent status quo," de Leon said late Saturday in a prepared statement.Still, Feinstein holds a sizable lead over de Leon in statewide polls.Meanwhile, the gubernatorial vote was split between Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom. Long lines pack the Atlanta shooting range with people buying guns and ammunition.Co-owner Ken Baye says sales have soared since mid-March, when the pandemic hit.Now, he’s seeing a second wave of interest with more people now looking to learn how to use a firearm.That includes people like Michelle DeShields, an elementary school counselor. She's aiming to increase her personal safety during these uncertain times.“It’s just been scary with police brutality that we are looking at, even the protesting sometimes, you see it’s gotten a little out of hand,” she said.The National Shooting Sports Foundation reports background checks for firearms purchases saw record highs in April and May.And that millions of those people are new gun owners.DeShields' father was a military veteran and a police officer.
