A new video is sparking debate on whether a father went too far in disciplining his daughter for bullying.“My beautiful daughter is going to walk 5 miles to school in 36-degree weather,” says the Matt Cox, in a video posted to his Facebook page.It's the latest example of a parent shaming their child.In the video, Cox explains his 10-year-old daughter was suspended from riding the school bus for a second time after bullying another student. So, instead of driving her, he made her walk 5 miles to school.“I know a lot of you parents are not going to agree with this, but that is alright, because I am doing what I feel is right to teach my daughter a lesson,” Cox says.The father has received both support and criticism online, but experts say shaming can negatively impact a child.“What happens is the child incorporates that negative image of themselves and that can cause a lot of problems,” says Dr. Robert Sege.Those problems include depression and anxiety, says Dr. Sege, who co-wrote the American Academy of Pediatrics Policy on discipline. A police officer in Columbus, Ohio, was arrested on Thursday on two child pornography related counts, Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said.Officer Raymond Rose, 29, was arrested on two second degree felony counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity related material and for pandering obscene material involving a minor. Rose is accused by O’Brien’s office of illegally filming a nude minor on July 20, 2020 inside a Columbus residence.O’Brien said that Rose was a member of the police’s patrol division for five years.WCMH-TV confirmed that Rose was placed on administrative leave and does not have arrest power during his leave.“When criminal activity is discovered, our duty is to investigate and pursue the appropriate action based on the evidence,” Columbus Division of Police Chief Tom Quinlan said in a statement to WCMH. “The fact that it involves one of our own does not change that. One of the eight was shot and she's survived her wounds. The other seven of my congregants were gunned down in my sanctuary. There was nothing I could do.”The gunman, identified as Robert Bowers, murdered 11 people. A study conducted by Stanford researchers found nearly 10% of those tested exhibited coronavirus antibodies. The study was published in the Lancet earlier this week.The study involved dialysis patients and randomly tested over 28,000 samples. The samples were taken in July as part of the patients’ treatment.The data found stark differences based on region. The northeast around 27% of patients with coronavirus antibodies, compared to 3.5% in the west.The study’s authors stressed that the study oversampled minorities. Minorities, the study found, were considerably more likely to have coronavirus antibodies than the rest of the population.“Uncertainty exists as to whether seroprevalence estimates in the dialysis population can be extrapolated to the US population more broadly,” the study reads.The study indicated that herd immunity is still far off, as estimates say at a minimum, 50% of the US population would need to be infected to reach that level. 969
