SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Navy is trying to find the owner of a boat that washed ashore at the Naval Base Coronado.The boat washed up and came to a rest against the fence that separated Coronado’s dog beach from the base.The Navy is asking the owner to come forward immediately to have the boat removed. The problem can get costly for the Navy.Several boats have already washed ashore this year. If the Navy can’t locate the owner, they have to cover the removal cost.Anyone with information on the boat’s owner is asked to call the Navy legal office at 619-545-8141. 573

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Coast Guard is searching for three people after a fishing vessel caught fire Saturday night, sending two people to the hospital and leading to the rescue of 15 more.According to the Coast Guard, the crew of a 42-foot fishing vessel named “Time Machine” called to report seeing a fire at 9:35 p.m. 28 miles south of Point Loma. The good Samaritans aboard the boat were able to pull 15 people out of the water, including two who were injured.10News spoke to the captain and crew of "Time Machine."Captain Mike Koesterer and his crew were on their way back into San Deigo from a fishing trip in Baja California when he saw an explosion in international waters. "I saw an orange flash," he said. For the next 20 minutes, he drove his vessel closer to the ball of fire. The next thing he saw will be etched in his mind forever. “We thought it might be a few people. But we kept on counting and counting and counting," Koesterer said.In the water, he and his crew witnessed 15 people screaming for help. Some had life vests. Others were wading. That's when his son Reeve changed into his diving suit and jumped in to help.“I knew there were going to be burns, but I didn’t think it would be that bad,” Reeve Koesterer said. He first pulled up a woman without a life vest. She desperately grabbed his hair and used Koesterer as a floatation device. The next few rescues were a blur. One by one, he carried and pulled the burn victims onto the "Time Machine." During the rescue, one of the victims told Reeve Koesterer that this was part of a human smuggling operation. “Do whatever we can to get them out of the water. No matter what the case is. They’re still lives,” Reeve Koesterer said. Andy Vo is usually responsible for shooting and editing fishing videos for the "Time Machine's" charter trips. Last night, he was also documenting the rescue on his phone. As the Koesterers were pulling people on board, Vo comforted the victims-- giving them blankets and coffee. “People that we rescued. He called us angels," Vo said. What are the odds that a fishing boat carrying Reeve Koesterer--  a young, bilingual English Spanish speaker, expert diver -- would be right there to save those lives? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The city could be heading back to square one in its quest to regulate short-term vacation rentals.On Monday, the San Diego City Council will decide whether to send its recently approved short-term rental regulations to a public vote, or scratch them altogether.In the summer, the council voted 6-3 to limit Airbnb-type rentals to primary residences. That essentially banned investors and owners of second homes from renting them out short-term.Airbnb launched a referendum that obtained enough signatures to send the decision back to the council, leaving the city those two options. "The people who own short-term rentals - they're San Diegans like you and me," said Jeff MacGurn, who owns a short-term rental in the Hillcrest area with his husband and signed the petition. "When it comes right down to it, what we want is a fair and reasonable compromise."But Ronan Gray, who heads Save San Diego Neighborhoods, said something has to be done to curtail short-term rentals in residential areas. He pointed to a City Attorney memo that says short-term rentals aren't allowed by municipal code and said the city should just enforce that code. "They're advertising houses in Pacific Beach as the ideal location for bachelor and bachelorette parties, so they're marketing it as a hotel," he said. The council meets at 12 p.m. Monday at City Hall.  1405

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family of a California Firefighter is hoping for his safe return after authorities in Mexico arrested two people linked to the case.Authorities announced on Friday that they had arrested a couple linked to the case. The couple has been identified as 32-year-old Fanny N. and 27-year-old Santos N.They say the couple had bank cards with Aguilar's name on them, and the cards were used at businesses in Ensenada, Rosarito, and Tijuana. The arrest was made Thursday.Aguilar disappeared in August when we went to his second home in Baja California.According to Mexican authorities, Aguilar had arranged to meet with one of the suspects at a Rosarito address. They believe it could have been a set up to kidnap him. Aguilar tried to escape.Authorities say neighbors heard gunshots and investigators found bloodstains in the area, but they have not been able to locate Aguilar.Aguilar's cousin in San Diego county, Nancy, says she is hopeful that her cousin will be found."I have faith that he's out there alive, and we are going to find him," she said.Authorities are questioning the suspects for leads. 1129

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The FBI said a bank robber who held up a US Bank in Rolando last week struck again Friday in La Mesa. Surveillance photos show a man entering the Wells Fargo Bank inside the Vons grocery store at 8011 University Ave. in La Mesa just before noon. The man pretended to talk on his phone before demanding money from the teller, agents said. He also threatened “to shoot” if he didn’t receive money, according to the FBI. After approaching the first counter, the man approached several tellers in an effort to get more cash, said investigators. The man spoke to tellers Aug. 15 during the US Bank robbery inside the Vons at 6155 El Cajon Blvd. “Grab a bag. Start with your 100s. Put all the money in the bag and give it to me or I'm gonna [sic] shoot,” the man said, according to agents. A helicopter searched the area near the Wells Fargo Friday afternoon but could not find the man. La Mesa Police said the man is 5’8”, in his mid-20s to early 30s, and has a tattoo of a cross on his forearm. Anyone with information about the robberies was asked to call the FBI. 1088
