Now I can feel how heavy my duty is to attend the meeting on behalf of the Chinese government," Wen told reporters aboard his plane en route to Copenhagen. BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Friday urged geologists to make full use of the country's rich resources and explore new energy in innovative ways.     "Geological work makes the basic and pioneer industry for economic and social development and it affects the country's overall modernization... We should mainly depend on our own power to increase energy supply," said Li at the ceremony for the country's top geological science awards.     A total of 14 geologists from the geological exploration, research and education fields received the 11th Li Siguang Geological Science Award. BEIJING, Nov. 24 -- Taxi passengers in Beijing will have an extra yuan added to their fares. The move is meant to offset the city's rising fuel prices, as they hit their highest levels in years.    The new taxi fare policy will begin this Wednesday on November 25, 2009. One yuan will be added to any trip exceeding 3 kilometers.     Beijing will continue to work on linking taxi fares with gasoline prices.     Meanwhile, most of local residents say they accept the surcharge.     A local resident of Beijing said, "A one yuan surcharge won't affect me too much. I'm OK with it." The new Beijing taxi fare policy will begin on Nov. 25, 2009. One yuan will be added to any trip exceeding 3 kilometers    Another said, "Some Chinese provinces have already taken similar measures, such as Yunnan and Shandong. I think it's fine. We should do it."     Taxi drivers have explained that the extra yuan will provide compensation for the increase in pump prices.     A taxi driver in Beijing said, "If I serve 40 passengers a day, it will create an additional 40 yuan. That can help me cope with the recent fuel price rises. I don't think passengers will give up taking taxi just because of one yuan. But if the per kilometer fare rises, many will think differently."     According to the new policy, the government, taxi companies, and passengers will share the cost of gasoline price fluctuations.     Beijing last saw an increase in taxi fares three years ago.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Tuesday that China and the United States will start preparations as soon as possible for the second round of the China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) scheduled for next summer in Beijing.     China and the United States will continue implementing the agreements reached at the first round of the dialogue last July in Washington, Hu said in remarks to reporters after talks with visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     The two leaders spoke positively during the talks of the importance of the strategic and economic dialogue mechanism in strengthening mutual trust and cooperation between the two nations, he said.     Both leaders believed that close high-level contacts and other dialogues and consultations at various levels are essential to the development of bilateral relations, said the Chinese president.     The two sides agreed to keep close communication through visits, phone calls, letters and meetings during multilateral events, Hu said.

BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Wednesday China and the United States should make joint efforts to push forward cooperation on clean energy and climate change in a substantial way.     Wen said such cooperation is important work and in the interests of both countries and the world. He said the two countries should advance cooperation in this area to bring benefit to the human beings and future generations.     Wen made the remarks when meeting with participants of the Strategic Forum for U.S.-China Clean Energy Cooperation that began in Beijing Wednesday. The forum will last to Friday.     The forum was co-sponsored by the Chinese think tank China Institute of Strategy and Management and the Brookings Institution of the United States. Participants include Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and high-ranking officials from both governments. China's Prime Minister Wen Jiabao(R2) talks with the US delegation of Forum on Strategic China-US Clean Energy Co-operation led by former US vice President Albert Gore(L2) in Beijing, Oct. 21, 2009U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Energy Stephen Chu will deliver video-taped address at the meeting Thursday.     Wen said since China and the United States are both major energy producers and consumers, the two countries share common interests in developing clean energy and addressing climate changes. He said bilateral cooperation in this area has strategic significance and broad prospect.     Wen said the two sides should earnestly implement the agreement on the 10-year energy and environment cooperation framework they signed in June, 2008.     He called for the governments, enterprises and researching institutes of both countries to join effort for this end.     Wen said energy efficiency and environment protection are both a basic strategy of China to achieve sustainable economic and social development and a major measure to cope with climate changes.     The American guests made positive comments on the efforts that China has made in developing clean energy and addressing climate changes.     They expressed the wish that the two countries should set up common targets and carry out constructive, practical cooperation in this respect.
