ATLANTA, Ga. – UPS expects to hire more than 100,000 seasonal employees to support the anticipated increase in packages during the holiday season. The company announced Wednesday that its filling full-time and part-time seasonal positions, primarily package handlers, drivers, driver-helpers, and personal vehicle drivers.“We’re preparing for a record peak holiday season. August is usually an exciting time to be an educator, as Teachers start decorating their classrooms and preparing for a new group of students. This year, however, many teachers are experiencing a new set of emotions.“My colleagues are fearful,” said Tanya Kitts-Lewinski, president of the Kenosha Education Association in Wisconsin.Kitts-Lewinski says many teachers are fearful of returning to campus during the COVID-19 crisis. Now, she’s calling out the safety of teaching during this pandemic, even virtually, saying some schools are requiring teachers to teach online from inside a classroom.“We can’t serve our students if we’re sick,” she said. Now a local law firm is preparing for the worst by offering free wills to teachers returning to classrooms."People are very scared, and this is the one thing I can do to help this group, and I'm committed to doing as much as I can," said Jim Brzezinski, a partner at Tabak Law in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.Brzezinski came up with this idea after talking with his wife, who is also a teacher. After posting this service online, the response was overwhelming."Within 12 hours of opening up this to teachers, we got about 300 requests within the first 12 hours," he said.We reached out to the Kenosha Unified School District, but they wouldn't talk on camera. Off camera, they said they plan on returning to school virtually, then reassessing the status of the pandemic and determining if and when it's safe to return to in-person learning."We frankly don't have enough educators to make our classrooms small enough to follow CDC guidelines," Kitts-Lewinski said, adding she won't feel safe returning to the classroom until the virus is fully contained."If we're not alive," she said. "We can't serve our students." 1764

Asked whether President Donald Trump had ever used the N-word, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders would not definitively say, instead referring reporters to a tweet."The President addressed that question directly," she said, adding, "I've never heard him use that term or anything similar."The question comes as former aide Omarosa Manigault Newman has claimed there's a tape of Trump using the racial epithet on the set of his NBC reality show "The Apprentice" -- though there is no evidence such a tape exists.Trump tweeted Monday night: "I don't have that word in my vocabulary, and never have."Pressed specifically on whether any recording of the President using the racial epithet exists, Sanders said: "I can't guarantee anything, but I can tell you that the President addressed this question directly."She maintained that Trump is someone who is "fighting for all Americans," and that his policies are helpful "particularly for African-Americans," citing African-American unemployment statistics.Sanders also claimed Tuesday that Trump's description of his former aide as a "dog" had "nothing to do with race and everything to do with the President calling out someone's lack of integrity."The "dog" comment was one of many insults the President has used to describe prominent African-Americans, but Sanders insisted Trump insults people of other races as well."The President's an equal opportunity person that calls things like he sees it," she said. "He fights fire with fire." 1501

At least 50 people were evacuated and two firefighters were hurt after a 5-alarm fire tore through an apartment building in Philadelphia. The fire broke out early Monday morning in the Overbrook section of the city. More than 100 firefighters battled the blaze and it took hours for crews to bring it under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Philadelphia Fire Department tweeted at 6 a.m. that the blaze was under control and they would continue to put out hot spots. 497

As we head into cold and flu season, you can expect things will be handled differently at workplaces, schools, day cares and medical offices because of COVID-19.Anyone with symptoms like a runny nose, a cough or sneezing will likely be asked to stay home.“So, I think there's going to be a requirement for any of these symptoms for employee health at the workplace to take a larger role in screening patients probably a lot more testing,” said Dr. Scott Joy, Chief Medical Officer at Englewood Primary Care.Joy spoke with us about how people should handle these symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic. He recommends staying home for 24 hours when you have a cold without a fever. If you have a fever, isolate for up to six days or until you've been fever free for a full 24 hours. If you're coughing or sneezing more than four times in an hour, you should probably stay home and see a doctor.“We haven't had a metric like that before, so we're going to experiment with that data point and see what it does to our workforce and our clinic infection control over this season,” said Joy.Joy also reminds people to get the flu shot.A study in the New England Journal of Medicine found people who got the vaccine had 25% fewer episodes of upper respiratory infections than those who didn't. That means fewer sick days from work and fewer doctor visits. The hope is that COVID-19 measures like handwashing, mask wearing and watching your distance will lead to fewer respiratory infections overall. But should you experience those symptoms, you may be directed to urgent care centers instead. The idea is to keep doctor offices sterile, so people with chronic conditions and other issues feel safe coming in to see their primary care physician.“In the last couple of months, people that have been putting off their care, I just diagnosed a gentleman, new diagnosis with pancreatic cancer,” said Joy. “We're detecting breast cancer, heart disease blood pressure that is out of control.”Urgent care centers are equipped with personal protective equipment and are typically faster, and cheaper than a visit to a hospital emergency room. But you should call your doctor's office first to see what they recommend based on your symptoms. 2228
