SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 2015 trip Duncan Hunter and his family reportedly took to Italy was a personal vacation unrelated to his work as a member of Congress, according to new court documents. The documents state that Hunter proposed and then canceled a visit to a base in or around Naples, Italy “in conjunction with the hunter family vacation.”According to the documents, “Hunter’s primary motive in attempting to schedule the November 2015 visit to a base was to generate a pretextual purpose so that he could misrepresent his personal use of campaign funds for the family vacation.” RELATED: Federal judge denies Rep. Hunter’s request to dismiss a 60-count indictment that accuses the Congressman of misusing campaign funds. Hunter is accused of spending the funds on personal expenses, including family trips. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former San Diego Unified School District student and football player is suing the district.The lawsuit filed by Jason Srouy alleges he was never informed of the potential financial and legal risks of participating and playing an organized sport if a lawsuit were to be filed alleging any negligent or other claims against the student-athlete.In 2018 Srouy and the school district were sued by a referee. The referee was injured during a 2015 game and claimed it was done on purpose. He alleged Srouy had a history of unsportsmanlike conduct known and encouraged by the coaching staff.At the time Srouy told 10News he was playing wide receiver during the game, tasked with blocking the opposing cornerback. During the block, he says the opposing player fell onto the back of the referee's legs, injuring the official.In a previous interview, Srouy said after learning of the lawsuit a school official led his family to believe the district would help him; however that was not the case. “It wasn’t on purpose, it was an accident, I didn’t mean to hurt anybody," said Srouy.Srouy’s attorney tells Team 10 he was eventually dropped from the lawsuit but not before racking incurring more than 5,000 in costs and fees.A spokesperson for the district says they can’t comment on pending litigation. 1323

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego-based owners and operators of the conservative One America News Network filed a million defamation lawsuit Monday against MSNBC and political commentator Rachel Maddow for saying on air the network ``really literally is paid Russian propaganda.'' The lawsuit filed in San Diego federal court by Herring Networks Inc., owners of the One America News Network -- or OAN -- calls Maddow's on-air statements ``utterly and completely false'' because OAN ``is wholly financed by the Herrings, an American family'' and ``has never been paid or received a penny from Russia or the Russian government.'' Maddow and MSNBC could not immediately be reached for comment. Maddow made the statements during a July 22 segment of her show, in which she cited a Daily Beast article stating that an OAN on-air reporter was ``on the payroll for the Kremlin.'' Herring Networks' court papers say the reporter, Kristian Rouz, is originally from the Ukraine and started his journalism career by writing articles for Sputnik News, which is affiliated with the Russian government. According to Herring Networks, Rouz was merely a freelancer for Sputnik who selected his own article topics for submission, and his work there had no significance toward his work for OAN. OAN demanded a retraction of Maddow's statement, according to the suit, which says that an attorney for NBC Universal refuted that Maddow's use of the word ``literally'' was not simply a figure of speech. The Herrings' attorney, Skip Miller, said in a statement that ``One America is wholly owned by the Herring family in San Diego,'' who he called ``as American as apple pie.'' Regarding Maddow's statements, Miller said, ``This is a false and malicious libel, and they're going to answer for it in a court of law.'' The Missiongathering Church in North Park was shut down this week after more than two dozen violations were handed to them by the city. In addition to being a shelter, the church also rents out the property as a music and sanctuary venue called “The Irenic.”The City of San Diego says the church never received clearance to do that. The GoFundMe hopes to raise ,000 to fix the violations. 504

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 17-year-old has been arrested for social media threats to a Carmel Valley high school.San Diego Police said the juvenile was taken into custody Monday at school during an investigation into threatening comments issued online against Canyon Crest Academy, which is part of the San Dieguito Union High School District.The teenager has been placed in Juvenile Hall for criminal threats, SDPD said.RELATED: Timeline shows threats made against San Diego County schoolsIn a letter to parents Monday, Principal Brett Killeen said no "credible nor specific threat was made."The students were concerned about what another student has been posting on social media.  Though no credible nor specific threat was made toward any specific student nor our school, these students did the right thing in reporting their concerns to us.  The San Diego Police Department is investigating this issue, and the student who posted the content is not on campus.We are proud that CCA is a safe school with an inclusive and caring culture.  We do encourage families to talk to teens about what they may be posting online, because threatening content will be taken seriously, even if posted in jest, and it ultimately disrupts the lives of those who are concerned about the content, as well as the person who used poor judgment in posting the content.  1383
