SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Since the deadly shooting in Parkland, Florida last month, the San Diego County District Attorney's office has seen 19 cases of local school threats.Nine juveniles so far have been charged criminally, according to District Attorney Summer Stephan."We can't assume that the threat is a joke," Stephan said.Stephan said that even though there is not an intent to carry out a school shooting, the person behind a social media threat could face a felony charge if they determine there is an intent to cause fear.Students could receive consequences ranging from custody time, community service, additional mental health services, restorative justice, or access to social media taken away ordered by a judge.San Diego County school threat timeline:"When they hear the judge mention taking their social media away, you can see their faces change over that," Stephan said. "It's important that parents and [the] community really talk to their kids."Stephan said investigators look at a number of factors when determining which cases rise to the level of charges."We have to look at do they have access to weapons? Have they acquired weapons recently? Have they visited websites that indicate a fascination with school shootings and violence?" Stephan said.Of the 19 cases, Stephan said eight cases "did not rise to the level" of criminal charges. The centerpiece of the ride, however, is the 90-degree, straight down drop. So, we get to live it, going on which is pretty cool.”Casey Dominguez, a Political Science Professor, is allowing students to watch the impeachment inquiry hearings during class as part of today’s lesson plan, hoping to help them understand what’s happening.Dominguez adds she hopes her students, “walk away from our class feeling they are competent to figure out what’s going on. And come up with informed opinions about it.”A lesson some of her students say has already left a lasting impression on them. Charlie Young, a Junior adds, “it’s the perfect opportunity to happen in college. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several North County residents felt their homes and businesses rattle briefly after a loud boom Friday.The noise and shaking were reported at about 1:30 p.m., according to San Diego Sheriff's Department. Deputies in the North County received calls from Vista about the noise. 10News also fielded several calls from Oceanside and San Marcos over the incident.USGS did not register any major earthquakes in the region Friday, according to the agency's website. At about 1:31 p.m., USGS recorded a 1.6-magnitude earthquake with a depth of about 5 miles in the Ocotillo Wells area, about 100 miles east of Oceanside.Camp Pendleton was scheduled to perform exercises involving mortar fire and high explosive munitions, according to a noise advisory statement, and finish its Exercise Iron Fist training alongside Japanese armed forces on base Friday. However, a spokesperson for Camp Pendleton told 10News the base was on normal operations Friday.The base's website advises that, "depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld guests are getting their first look at a sea otter pup recently rescued in Alaska and taken in by San Diego staff for care.Cinder, an orphaned sea otter brought to SeaWorld earlier this month from Alaska, has nearly doubled in weight and has been hitting all the developmental milestones for her age, the theme park said. Veterinarians have been caring for the pup around the clock, the park says, and she has been adjusting well to her new home.RELATED: Orphaned sea otter pup brought from Alaska to SeaWorld's careCinder is viewable just in time for Sea Otter Awareness Week. SeaWorld keepers will be hosting presentations about otters and ways to public can help in their care in the wild through Saturday.The young pup arrived at the Alaska SeaLife Center underweight and dehydrated, before being transferred to San Diego. Cinder's now weighs a little more than 10 pounds, feeding on a special sea otter milk formula every three hours.Guests can view Cinder periodically throughout the day at the Otter Outlook nursery.The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has deemed Cinder non-releasable, so SeaWorld's Animal Rescue Team and veterinarians have provided constant care. She is expected to be introduced to the park's other resident female sea otters — Mocha, Coco, Clover and Pumpkin, who range in age from five to nine years old — who were also orphaned. 1393
