More than 200 small earthquakes peppered California's Imperial Valley on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.The USGS reports that 240 small earthquakes occurred near Westmorland, California, between 4 p.m. local time Wednesday evening into 8 p.m. local time Thursday morning. Most of the quakes measure about magnitude 3.0, with the largest being a magnitude 4.9 quake.The seismic activity continued into Thursday morning, as dozens more small earthquakes occurred in what the USGS calls the "Brawley seismic zone." Dr. Lucy Jones, a seismologist, founder & chief scientist at her center, said it is one of the largest swarms ever seen in the Imperial Valley — and it is historically one of the most active swarms in Southern California. According to the USGS, the area also saw earthquake swarms in 1981 (which included a magnitude 5.8 quake) and in 2012 (which included a magnitude 5.4 quake).The USGS reports that the earthquake swarm will continue to produce small earthquakes over the next seven days, and while there may be a few moderately-sized earthquakes up to magnitude 5.4, the system will eventually peter out.A second less likely scenario laid out by the USGS indicates that a large earthquake between magnitudes 5.5 and 6.9 is possible. A third — and least likely — scenario indicates that an enormous earthquake of magnitude 7.0+ could happen, which would cause "serious" impacts on nearby communities.Luckily, Jones said the earthquake swarm is too far away to have an impact on the dangerous San Andreas."The swarm happening now south of the Salton Sea, near Westmorland is over 30 km south of the end of the San Andreas," she tweeted. MORRISON, Colo. — Alex Biagi lived a normal life for 24 years. He was an athlete and loved art and music. But everything took a turn in 2004.Biagi's left hand started to hurt. At first, he was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. On Thanksgiving eve in 2004, Biagi fell down his stairs."My ankle gave way," Biagi explained. "That's when we knew something else was going on."Biagi lost use of his arms, hands and legs. It took four years for doctors to figure out what was going on. He was later diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. The disease is extremely rare."It affects approximately one to two people in 1,000 per year," said Dr. Robert Schabbing with Kaiser Permanente. "Alex has had a severe case of CIDP." When Biagi was first diagnosed, he gave up on art because his hands simply wouldn't allow it. But three years ago, he saw someone on the internet painting with their mouth."I never even thought about doing it that way," he said. "I finally decided to give it a try."For three years, Biagi has been practicing the unique craft and his paintings continue to get better and better.His latest piece of art is making the rounds on the internet. More than 190,000 ceiling fans sold at Home Depot in the U.S. and Canada are being recalled after receiving reports that blades were detaching from the fan while in use, which the company said could cause injuries.According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), 182,000 of the Hampton Bay 54-inch Mara Indoor/Outdoor fans were sold in the U.S. in stores and online from April through October 2020. Home Depot also sold 8,800 fans in Canada.The CPSC said 47 reports of the blades detaching have caused two people being struck and four accounts of the blades causing property damage. It was not reported if the people hit were injured.The CPSC said the recalled fans come in matte white, matte black, black, and polished nickel finishes. NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Nashville restaurant held a socially-distanced, drive-in comedy show on Wednesday.The show was at Daddy's Dogs location in The Nations. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant has held music concerts to bring more people to the shop."It was a big shift for us to go basically to a full restaurant, instead of doing our carts and going to the people, so we knew we had to do something to make some waves and make people know that we're here," Daddy's Dogs owner Sean Porter said.But on Wednesday night, the parking lot performance shifted gears from music to comedy."I'm really excited about this, it's a little different than what we've done in the past," Porter said. "As far as I know there really hasn't been a big drive-in comedy show so there's a first for everything!"A few dozen carloads of people poured into the restaurant's parking lot for the show, flashing their lights and honking for the lineup of local comedians to take the place of laughter."This is just something that's nice that lets people feel safe, they're in their own space, and give them an outlet to not think about whats going on in the world," Porter said. "I think it's just something everybody needs right now."The concert series at Daddy's Dogs runs through the end of October.
