Leaders of the world’s most powerful nations wrapped up the Group of 20 summit on Sunday, vowing to spare no effort to protect lives and ensure affordable access to COVID-19 vaccines for all people.The two-day summit of heads of state was held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed at least 1.38 million people globally, with the world’s highest death tolls recorded in seven of the G-20 countries. The U.S., however, has declined to join under President Donald Trump.German Chancellor Angela Merkel told reporters Sunday in Berlin after the virtual summit that Germany had given financial support to the COVAX initiative, but that more money was needed.The G-20 statement did not directly address an urgent appeal by U.N. The G-20 called on private lenders to join the effort.Already, 46 countries have requested to benefit from the debt suspension initiative, amounting to .7 billion in debt referral. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A man reportedly armed with a knife was shot by police officers during a confrontation in La Mesa Monday.The shooting happened before 9 a.m. on Fletcher Parkway, at Amaya Drive, La Mesa police told 10News.Police said a 13-year-old girl reported that an unknown man was throwing knives at her and chased her.The girl ran to a sandwich shop to call 911, police told 10News. She was not injured.RELATED: Threats against East County schools investigatedResponding officers located the man on Fletcher Parkway and attempted to take him into custody, but during the confrontation in which police officials said he refused to drop a knife, officers fired at least two shots at the man.The injured man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. His condition is unknown.According to the girl's mother, Tammy Brown, her daughter was on her way to Parkway Middle School when she stopped by to walk with a friend who lives near Fletcher Parkway and Amaya. Before she arrived, the victim noticed the man mumbling and yelling to himself before he reportedly threw a closed pocket knife at the victim, striking her.  1175

(KGTV) -- A suspect was arrested following a robbery at a La Mesa credit union Wednesday morning.According to police, the robbery happened at the Navy Federal Credit Union on the 8700 block of Grossmont Boulevard just after 10 a.m. Wednesday.Police say the suspect brandished a knife and demanded cash after walking into the credit union.After fleeing from the business, the suspect was found driving away from the area by officers responding to the incident.The suspect, Rafeek Karamat, 35, was positively identified using surveillance video from the credit union. Karamat was booked into the San Diego County jail for robbery. 652

(KGTV) - One of the witnesses to Sunday's fatal drive-by shooting in La Jolla happened to be a trauma expert."I did see people at that point running all over the place," neighbor Michelle Carcel said. Steps from the crime scene, Carcel recounted what she saw hours prior. One woman was killed, and three men were shot on a sleepy street in La Jolla. San Diego Police said all victims were outside a house party on Draper Avenue when the shooting happened. RELATED: 1 dead in shooting at party in La Jolla"By 9 o'clock everything is shut down, so when we hear kids having a party and stuff, we often say it is a very nice thing. It is a quiet calm thing. So to have this occur is completely out of the ordinary," Carcel said. The scene was so foreign to neighbors in this area but all too familiar for Carcel. As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Carcel often deals with and speaks about gun violence and trauma. "I've talked about Parkland shooting. I've talked about the Orlando shooting. And to have it happen here, to have it happen here so close to home, is still so jarring and so rattling and really brings the message that it can happen anywhere," Dr. Carcel said. Carcel now wears both the witness hat and the clinical psychologist hat. She is giving advice to everyone involved. "This is going to have acute side effects," Dr. Carcel said. "You're going to have post-traumatic stress that could occur within a period of time. Just monitoring and making sure that they are getting the counseling and support that they need."She hopes for the end of senseless shootings, even if it means she may be out of a job. "Our children are dying," Dr. Carcel said. "Innocent people are dying, I don't know what the solution is, but I hope we come together as a community to figure it out."Dr. Carcel said she will conduct a trauma healing circle for her neighbors at a later time. 1900
