SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A political kingmaker is using his fortune to shake up the San Diego race for District Attorney.The first television ads are hitting airwaves now, little more than a month before the election.The element of surprise surrounds the tone of an ad paid for by billionaire George Soros. He’s known for backing progressive candidates and shaking up elections, usually with controversial ads.The ad lays out Geneviéve Jones Wright’s qualifications to be San Diego County’s next District Attorney. It does not attack her opponent Summer Stephan, which is what most politicos expected.Jones Wright told 10News she had not seen the ad.Stephan’s campaign manager said he’s surprised the ad is more of an introduction than an attack. Jason Roe also said there is no doubt in his mind the gloves will come off, based on what he called Soros’ pattern of negative and dishonest ads.Jones Wright filed a complaint with the attorney general claiming Stephan was basically campaigning on the job and using photo ops with law enforcement in her campaign materials.Stephan’s campaign manager called it a distraction. 1128

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A person is back in ICE custody and in isolation after they were taken to Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center to be evaluated for possible coronavirus symptoms.The individual was in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement when officials determined the person needed to be taken to Sharp Chula Vista, the county said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Lakeside mother made a life-changing sacrifice for a teenager she had never met.“I went into this not knowing if I would ever meet the family,” said Tiffany Jokerst of the surgery.Jokers, a math teacher, has spent her life giving to others. She was web surfing when she noticed a post that would push her to do even more.“I actually saw a story online about a little girl who needed a kidney,” said Jokerst.Without hesitation, Jokerst launched into the process, only to learn she was not a match to the girl. However, Jokerst was a match to 17-year-old Alejandro Hernandez.“Alejandro has been struggling with kidney disease all his life, finally his kidneys failed,” said Dr. Elizabeth Ingulli of Rady Children’s Hospital.The hospital currently has 29 patients on its transplant waiting list.Jokerst agreed to the surgery and Hernandez received the transplant he desperately needed.“I can play soccer, work out, hang out with my friends,” Hernandez said.Jokerst and Hernandez met for the first time Tuesday. Their biological bond is undeniable and they hope their new friendship lasts a lifetime.“I’m so happy,” Hernandez said. 1156
