SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The California Film Commission Wednesday announced two additional TV series will relocate to the state to take advantage of incentives provided by the Film and Television Tax Credit Program, including one that will shoot in the San Diego area.The Amazon Prime war crime drama "Hunters" and the Disney+ historical drama "The Right Stuff" will move to California for their second seasons of production, commission officials said.Starting in March 2021, all 88 planned filming days for "The Right Stuff" are set to occur in the San Diego area. Such production helps fulfill the tax credit program's goal of bringing jobs and spending to regions beyond the Los Angeles 30-mile studio zone."We are thrilled to welcome ‘The Right Stuff’ to the San Diego region. The California Film & TV Tax Credit Program has been a critical incentive in attracting productions to San Diego," said Brandy Shimabukuro, film liaison for the City of San Diego’s Film Office. "Productions like these help bolster our local economy and civic pride, while also creating and sustaining jobs in the film industry."Locations for shooting have yet to be determined.The Disney+ series follows the story of the early days of the U.S. space program as it competed to be the first to put man in space. The series is based on the bestselling book by Tom Wolfe.California's tax credit program has enticed a total of 22 TV series to relocate from other states and nations, according to the commission.This round of applications for tax credits for TV projects was held Sept. 29 to Oct. 7. Due to the program's success with ongoing TV projects, the allocation round was open only to newly relocating series and recurring series accepted during previous rounds, the commission stated.For their first seasons in California, "Hunters" and "The Right Stuff" are on track to generate a combined 5 million in below-the-line wages and other qualified expenditures, film commission officials said.Like all film and TV tax credit projects, their overall spending will be significantly greater with the inclusion of above-the-line wages and other expenditures that do not qualify for incentives under California's targeted tax credit program, commission officials said."It's great to emerge from the pandemic shutdown with news that two more successful TV series are relocating to California," said Colleen Bell, the commission's executive director. "Such projects are a primary target for our tax credit program because they bring high-quality jobs and significant in-state spending."Based on information provided with their tax credit applications, the two projects will employ an estimated 440 cast members, 374 crew members and 6,056 background actors/stand-ins over a combined 195 filming days in California.They will also generate significant post-production jobs and revenue for the state's visual effects artists, sound editors, sound mixers, musicians and other workers/vendors as part of their eight-episode seasons, the commission said."We're thrilled to see this round of tax credits generate so much out- of-zone filming because it brings direct economic benefit to regions across the state," Bell said. "Based on their qualified spending and out-of-zone production, the two relocating series announced today will receive reservations for an estimated .5 million in tax credit allocation."The current list of projects eligible for tax credits is subject to change, as projects may withdraw and their reservation of tax credits is reassigned or rolled over into the pool of funds for the next TV allocation period.The state's next tax credit application period for TV projects will take place March 15-22. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Sales of previously owned single-family homes and attached properties like condominiums and townhomes both fell by roughly 25 percent in September compared to August, according to data released Tuesday by the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors.Single-family home sales decreased from 2,039 in August to 1,536 in September, a 24.7 percent decline. Condo and townhome sales fell from 1,056 to 792, a 25 percent decrease.Year-over-year sales figures were also down, with single-family home sales falling 21.6 percent from 1,958 in September 2017 to 1,536 last month, and attached property sales down 22.7 percent from 1,024 to 792 listings sold.In total, previously-owned home sales in 2018 are down 9 percent compared to the first nine months of 2017."I'm hopeful that residential sales will continue along a mostly positive line for the rest of the year," said GSDAR President Steve Fraioli. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott announced today that the city will use a 5,850 grant to fund a team of specialized prosecutors to handle cases involving drug-impaired drivers.The City Attorney's Office will use the renewed Drug DUI Prosecution Grant to handle cases of both drug-impaired and drug/alcohol-impaired driving, from arrest through conviction and sentencing. The state Office of Traffic Safety administers the grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration."Driving under the influence of drugs can have devastating effects on San Diego drivers and their families," Elliott said. "Our city continues to see DUI cases involving the misuse of prescription drugs, marijuana and illegal drugs, often in combination with alcohol. This grant allows our highly specialized prosecution team to work closely with law enforcement to hold accountable those who endanger our community."Specialized prosecutors working under the previous grant from Oct. 1, 2017, to Sept. 30 of this year filed 228 misdemeanor cases of drug-impaired and drug/alcohol-impaired driving while the City Attorney's Office filed a total of 3,110 impaired driving cases during that time. The office has received grant funding for drug DUI prosecutions since the fall of 2014.Officials warn that use of prescription drugs and/or marijuana, especially in conjunction with alcohol use, can lead to a DUI arrest and conviction. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego City Council voted 5-4 today to extend the city's moratorium on commercial and residential evictions until the end of September amid high unemployment rates during the coronavirus pandemic. The moratorium that was slated to expire Wednesday will be extended to Sept. 30 as a result of the council's vote. Council members Georgette Gomez, Monica Montgomery, Jennifer Campbell, Chris Ward and Vivian Moreno voted in favor, while Barbara Bry, Mark Kersey, Scott Sherman and Chris Cate voted no.The moratorium prohibits landlords from evicting renters and small businesses that are unable to cover their rent or lease payments due to financial hardship brought about by the COVID-19 outbreak.Under the moratorium, renters and small businesses cannot be evicted if they notify their landlord in writing, on or before the day the rent is due, that they are unable to pay. They have one week after notification to provide proof that their financial hardship is related to the COVID-19 pandemic.Landlords and tenants are encouraged to work out a payment plan on their own. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County public health officials reported 308 new COVID-19 cases and three additional deaths Sunday, raising the county's cumulative totals to 40,650 cases and 707 fatalities.Two women and one man died between July 29 and Aug. 31. Their ages ranged from the mid-50s to mid-90s. Two of the three had underlying medical conditions.San Diego County's state-calculated case rate is 5.8 and the testing positivity percentage is 3.8%.Of 4,271 tests reported as of Saturday, 7% returned positive, raising the county's 14-day rolling positive testing rate to 4.3%, well below the state's 8% guideline. The seven-day average number of tests performed in the county is 6,946.Of the total positive cases in the county, 3,214 -- or 7.9% -- have required hospitalization since the pandemic began, and 772 -- or 1.9% -- were admitted to an intensive care unit.County health officials reported two new community outbreaks as of Saturday, bringing the number of outbreaks in the past week to 20. One of the outbreaks was at a residence and one at a business.The number of community outbreaks remains well above the county's goal of fewer than seven in a seven-day span. A community setting outbreak is defined as three or more COVID-19 cases in a setting and in people of different households in the past 14 days.Under the new state monitoring metrics, San Diego County is in Tier 2, also referred to as the red tier.The county's next scheduled media briefing is Wednesday. SDSU officials say none of the cases under investigation are related to on-campus educational activities, including classes or labs.Luke Wood, SDSU's vice president for student affairs and campus diversity, said the university was working with a security company to enforce public health code violations and had issued a total of 457 student violations through Friday afternoon.
