SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man police say rammed a patrol vehicle while holding a gun prompted an officer-involved shooting in North Park Saturday. The incident began around 9:20 p.m. when police received a call about a carjacking near Maryland Street and Madison Avenue. According to San Diego Police, the victim’s property, including a 2019 Subaru Outback, was taken at gunpoint. RELATED: Man arrested in officer-involved shooting sparked by pursuitPolice responded and found the vehicle on the 1800 block of Washington Street. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver, a 17-year-old boy, fled the scene, leading police on a chase. The pursuit ended when the suspect drove off the road at Arizona Street and Howard Avenue before putting the car in reverse and driving toward officers. While backing up, police say the 17-year-old slouched down in the driver’s seat, pointing a handgun at police and prompting an officer to fire his weapon at the suspect. The man continued to back up, slamming into a patrol car, police say. The initial officer that fired, and one additional officer, fired their service weapons at the suspect,” police said. The suspect wasn’t hit with gunfire and surrendered to police. No officers were injured. At this time, the suspect isn’t being identified due to his age. The officers also aren’t being identified, but police say the first officer involved in the shooting is a one-year veteran of the department while the second is a two-year veteran. 1749

YOKOHAMA, Japan (AP) — Daily life on the cruise ship quarantined off a Japanese port can include fear, excitement and soul-crushing boredom. Passengers on the ship describe cramped rooms and boring food in interviews with The Associated Press and on social media posts. A passenger who caught the worrisome virus initially felt terror but then described surprisingly mild symptoms. With the number of illnesses growing, there's a nagging doubt that quarantining the ship's hundreds of passengers and crew in tight quarters might spread the viral disease more. And for the hundreds of crew members confined to the ship, there's a difficult job to be done. 667

Yosemite National Park is investigating about 170 reports of gastrointestinal illnesses and has confirmed two cases of norovirus, officials said Thursday. The National Park Service began investigating after visitors and employees started reporting illnesses this month. Most cases occurred in early January.“We’ve had very few the last week or so,” park spokesman Scott Gediman said. “We’re hoping that we’re over the hump.”Norovirus is highly contagious and can be spread through direct contact with an infected person, touching a contaminated surface or eating or drinking contaminated food. It can cause vomiting and diarrhea and its symptoms are especially severe for elderly people, young children and people with health issues. Most of those who reported becoming sick in Yosemite had symptoms consistent with norovirus, although some might have had food poisoning or the flu, Gediman said. The origin of the outbreak was unclear. Park officials also haven’t determined whether people who became ill contracted something inside or outside of the park. Most of the people who got sick had spent time in Yosemite Valley, where park offices, visitor services, snack shops, hotels and restaurants are clustered. The park hasn’t tested food or facilities in the park for traces of norovirus, but Gediman said the park and its concession operators have been working to clean and disinfect public buildings, including the famous Ahwahnee Hotel.Aramark, which operates the hotel, received numerous complaints from visitors about poor food quality, shuttle and other services since it began managing Yosemite’s concessions four years ago.The company is working with the park to prevent future illnesses, Gediman said.“They’ve been a great partner,” he said. 1761
