SAN MARCOS (KGTV) -- Since CSU San Marcos student Adrianne McWilliams was young, the service was always near and dear to her heart."My dad was active duty for 20 years, so the first few years of my life I moved around a lot. When I was in elementary school, my mom started working for the Marine Corps," McWilliams said.When she found out that those coming home from deployment wouldn't get the staple celebration she remembered as a child, McWilliams wanted to take matters into her own hands."It just kind of made me think about how when I was really young and my dad was deployed, whenever he came back there was always that big homecoming moment," McWilliams told 10News.She created thank you and care packages for those returning home from duty."I'm doing everything I can to make sure that there's at least a little handwritten note on it that says 'welcome home' and 'thank you for your service' so at least they get that little bit of homecoming that they'd get if this were under usual circumstances," McWilliams added.She included basic essentials like toiletries and snacks, something she said they could use since many of them have to self quarantine for two weeks before reuniting with family."Our Marines that are coming home do deserve a special homecoming. Coming home after a long deployment then having to quarantine is not an ideal situation," said McWilliams.McWilliams gathered gifts and donations thanks to friends, family and community members, all from word of mouth and social media. Her first batch was given to 35 returning members."I've always liked giving back but when it's something I'm passionate about and have a personal connection to, the motivation is a little stronger and it's something that hits closer to home," she said.On June 2, 50 packages will be given to another group of returning members. (KGTV) - Surveillance video obtained by ABC 10News shows a gas thief in action in Santee.Just before 3 a.m. last Wednesday, at a business park off North Woodside Avenue, the video revealed a masked man up to no good."Just sad seeing someone doing that," said Kevin Wilson.The owner of the vans shown in the video is Kevin Wilson, co-owner of carpet cleaning and repair company, Southwestern Carpet Works. Hours later, he arrived and smelled the aftermath."Pulled up to work and I could immediately smell gas," said Wilson.When he looked at the gas gauge of his box van, his heart sank."Instantly could tell there was less than a quarter tank, and there was a full tank the day before," said Wilson.Here's why. In the video, a man is seen carrying a water jug and some tubing. The man shoves the tube into the gas tank, before puts the tube to his mouth and siphoning the gas.He would get away with about 20 gallons of fuel."Angry and disappointed. He is stealing from a small, family business. If you steal from us, you’re stealing from our kids and our employees' kids," said Wilson.Like most small businesses, his was impacted by COVID-19"For the first month-and-a-half to two months, it was really slow," said Wilson.Fast forward to the end of summer. Wilson believes the gas thief in the video is the same one that hit his business two others times in the past few months."In times past, a little more cautious. He had his back to camera, but dressed in similar clothes and shoes," said Wilson.Wilson says other businesses in the area have also been targeted in the same time period. (AP) — Fire investigators looking into what caused a wildfire that killed four people in far Northern California have taken possession of equipment belonging to Pacific Gas and Electric. PG&E says in a filing Friday with the Public Utilities Commission that investigators with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection seized some of its electrical equipment near where the Zogg Fire started Sept. 27. The fire erupted in Shasta County during high winds and quickly grew, killing four people in the community of Igo, population 600. It later spread to neighboring Tehama County. 623

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Uber says its mask verification safety feature is now available to all riders in the U.S. and Canada.The company made the announcement Thursday and also revealed it has removed the access of more than 1,250 riders since its “No Mask, No Ride” policy was put in effect in May.Beginning Thursday, if a driver reports that a rider wasn’t wearing a mask in their vehicle, the rider will be required to take a selfie with their mask or face covering before they’re able to take another trip with Uber.With the addition of the new feature, Uber says one driver's feedback can help ensure the safety of using Uber for the next driver."We all have a shared responsibility to help keep our communities safe and healthy and we're working with riders, drivers, delivery people and restaurants to make sure we're doing our part," said Matthew Price, Uber Canada's General Manager.
