(KGTV) — Next time you hail an Uber or Lyft, maybe consider some hand sanitizer after touching that door handle. That's because ride-sharing vehicles are on average about 35,000 times germier than a toilet seat, according to a new study by insurance provider Netquote. Ridesharing measured about 6,055,963 colony-colony forming units (CFU) compared to an average toilet with 171.61 CFU.Rideshare vehicles were far ahead of rental cars and even taxis on the study's germ index, and worse than toothbrush holders, coffee reservoirs, and toilets. The worst areas in rideshare vehicles were seat belts, door handles, and window buttons, the study found.RELATED: Uber and Lyft drivers in San Diego go on strike for better wages"In our rideshare vehicles, the window buttons were the worst when it comes to germs. On average, we found more than 5 million [colony-forming units]/sq. in. on the tiny buttons. The seat belts, too, held high levels of bacteria: more than 1 million CFU/sq. in.," the study says. "Interestingly, the door handles were the cleanest surface, with 1,810 CFU/sq. in. However, one study showed that the average car door handle holds 28 microorganisms per square inch – meaning the average rideshare door handle is 64 times germier."The study compared three random ride-share cars, three taxis and three rental cars. While not all germs are harmful, higher levels of some bacteria pose a risk. The study's samples revealed the presences of bacillus (a type that can cause infections and food poisoning); gram-positive rods, including cocci (which is linked to skin infections, pneumonia, and blood poisoning); gram-negative rods (which tend to be harmful to humans); and yeast (which under the right conditions has the potential cause skin infections, especially in people with compromised immune systems). 1828

(KGTV) - You can leave the lights of San Diego behind at dark places that are prime for viewing meteor showers.Want to go stargazing? Try these San Diego County locations for the best viewing experience: Jess Martin Park (Julian): Head up to Julian to catch the meteor shower. Blair Valley Campground (Anza-Borrego): There's really no bad spot in Anza-Borrego for stargazing. Its distance from San Diego makes it prime for some great viewing. Palomar Observatory: Palomar Mountain is the site of an observatory, so there's no wonder why the area is great for catching the stars. Laguna Campground: Mount Laguna has long been an area for camping and an escape from the city for San Diegans. While the Mount Laguna Observatory has the power to look deep into the galaxy, you'll have to bring your own gear at the campground to view the dark skies. Torrey Pines State Reserve: Torrey Pines State Reserve can provide some surprising star gazing despite being as close to highways as it is. The glider port has been a spot for those who don't want to make the hours-long trek east. Blue Sky Ecological Reserve: Poway's Blue Sky park is a great spot close to the county and away from too many bright lights for star gazing. Fleet Science Center (Balboa Park): Yes, Balboa Park is close to the city lights, but with some telescopic power, you can still catch some great sights like planets and bright stars. Mt. Helix Park: Mount Helix is another good option for those not wanting to drive too far away. Otay Lakes County Park: Otay Lakes park is another close option where local star gazers have had success staring into the night sky. Soledad Mountain: Another option close to home. Set your gaze or telescope in the right direction and Soledad Mountain is a great spot to star gaze. San Elijo Park: Head up to North County and catch some star-gazing at San Elijo Park. Assuming the park lights are turned down, you'll be able to catch some of the celestial sights. 1968

(KGTV) — Newly released video shows the moment a Portland high school coach disarmed a student who brought a loaded shotgun to school in May.Keanon Lowe, Parkrose High School's head football and track coach, was in a classroom full of students when the gunman, identified as Angel Granados Dias, came in with shotgun on May 17, 2019, according to Portland police. In the video, Lowe brings Dias into a school hallway after appearing to disarm the student. Lowe is seen holding the shotgun before handing it off to another staff member. The coach continues to hold the student and embrace him in a hug, as the staff member leaves with the firearm and students flee from the classroom.Lowe, a former Oregon Ducks football player and NFL coach, says he lunged for the gun with both hands inside the classroom when he realized what was happening. The coach said he told Dias he was there for him and that his life was worth saving. Investigators say Dias was suffering a mental health crisis and only intended to hurt himself, Portland ABC-affiliate KATU reported."Then it was just me and that student. It was a real emotional time. It was emotional for him, it was emotional for me," Lowe told KATU in May. "In that time, I felt compassion for him. A lot of times, especially when you’re young, you don’t realize what you’re doing until it’s over."Dias has since been sentenced to three years probation and to undergo mental health treatment. ‘Tis the season to shop! With the holidays around the corner, stores will be offering sales and discounts. Many of them may appear too good to be true. Well, most of them are, and if you’re a shopper who isn’t great at math, you may fall for the advertised sales.More than 70 percent of shoppers reportedly can't do the math when it comes to finding out how much the item will end up costing them.  If math isn’t confusing enough, stores have another discount trick up their sleeve. It’s known as “price framing,” and stores have been doing this for years. Here's a trickier scenario seen a lot: there are two price options for a top-of-the-line item and a generic one.  Let’s take a blender, for example. Top-of-the-line usually cost about 0, but it’s on sale for 0. The generic usually cost , and now it's on sale for .Which one is the better deal? Most shoppers may think the 50 percent discount on the generic option is the best deal.  However, it's all psychological. The store wants you to think the second option is a better deal, but in actuality, no matter which one you buy, you ultimately save the same: .   Price framing is everywhere. Airlines do it, as well as cell phone carriers and car dealerships.  Just because an item appears to be on sale for a great deal, it doesn’t mean it’s truly a bargain. 1393
