An online service that allows people to track criminal activity in their neighborhoods is now available throughout the San Diego area, officials announced Thursday.VIEW CRIME TRACKER MAPThe CrimeMapping.com website initially only covered communities under the jurisdiction of the sheriff's department, but it has been expanded to serve the entire county, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Melissa Aquino."CrimeMapping.com analyzes and maps crime data from arson to assault, burglary, drugs (and) alcohol violations, DUI, fraud, homicide, car theft, robbery, sex crimes, vandalism, car break-ins, weapons violations and even multiple crimes at a single location," Aquino said.Data resource users can view maps in either a satellite-photo view or on a road map, find crime listings compiled in a report format or shown as a graph to identify patterns or trends and get crime prevention tips."There is also an option to sign up for email alerts and to email a link to others, which would be useful for neighborhood-watch groups," Aquino said.The service is a joint program of the sheriff's department, the Automated Regional Justice Information System, the San Diego Association of Governments and law enforcement agencies across the county.The sheriff's department provides law enforcement for unincorporated communities and several area cities that contract with it in lieu of forming their own police departments. 1422

An Alabama family is mourning a man killed by police Thanksgiving night after being mistaken for the shooter who injured two people at a mall.An officer fatally shot Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford Jr. about 10 p.m. CT Thursday at the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover, a Birmingham suburb. At the time, authorities said he got into an altercation at the mall and opened fire, injuring two people ages 18 and 12.An officer encountered an armed Bradford fleeing the scene and fatally shot him, police said.But after conducting forensic tests and talking to witnesses, investigators said Bradford might have been involved in the altercation but likely did not fire the rounds that injured the two youths.The gunman is still at large and police have not provided a name or description.Relatives are demanding answers as they mourn a man they call EJ."EJ was a devoted son and brother, who dedicated his life to serving his country and always doing the right thing," his family said in a statement."As we continue to grieve, rest assured that we are working diligently with our legal team to determine exactly what happened and why this police officer killed our son. ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Back-to-back earthquakes measuring 7.0 and 5.7 rocked buildings and shattered roads Friday morning in Anchorage, sending people running into the streets and briefly triggering a warning to residents in Kodiak to flee to higher ground for fear of a tsunami.The warning was lifted without incident a short time later. There were no immediate reports of any deaths or serious injuries.The U.S. Geological Survey said the first and more powerful quake was centered about 7 miles (12 kilometers) north of Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, with a population of about 300,000. A large section of road near the Anchorage airport collapsed, marooning a car on a narrow island of pavement surrounded by deep chasms in the concrete. AMITY, Ind. -- An Indiana family lost nearly a dozen show pigs when several barns caught fire on their farm early Saturday morning. The fire broke out in the Amity, Indiana area of Johnson County between Franklin and Edinburgh just before 6 a.m. The Amity Fire Department Chief Jackie Brockman said several structures were already up in flames when crews arrived on the scene. The pigs were being raised by the owner's 9-year-old and 13-year-old sons. Firefighters were able to contain the fire so it did not spread to a nearby barn where the family housed several other pigs and those pigs are safe. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but Chief Brockman says they believe it was accidental.   974
