SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man accused of fatally stabbing his neighbor 33 times in Rancho Pe?asquitos last week pleaded not guilty to a murder charge.Police said Howard Forrest Lowe, 54, stabbed his neighbor, Richard Munsinger, 72, repeatedly in an unprovoked attack in Munsinger's garage in the 9500 block of High Park Lane.Following the attack, police said Lowe washed his hands and made a getaway on his bike before authorities caught up to him.RELATED: Police identify victim, suspect in deadly Rancho Pe?asquitos stabbingLowe faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man suspected of causing serious injuries that left a man in a coma-like state for nearly four years before his eventual death was arrested earlier this month, San Diego police announced Tuesday.San Diego police said 42-year-old Manuel Lopez was identified by investigators as the suspect in the death of Allen Stokes and was taken into custody on Sept. 3, on suspicion of murder.On March 12, 2016, Stokes was found unresponsive in an apartment building in the 7100 block of El Cajon Boulevard. Stokes was taken to the hospital for treatment, but his condition never improved.According to police, Stokes “remained in a conscious, yet unresponsive state, until his death” on Nov. 8, 2019.The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Stokes’ death “was the result of injuries received in March of 2016.”Stokes was 67 years old at the time he was injured. He was 72 years old when he died, police stated.After Stokes’ death was determined to be a homicide, investigators gathered evidence and spoke to those who knew the victim and eventually identified Lopez as a suspect in the case.Police said Lopez was booked into County Jail following his arrest.During Lopez's Tuesday afternoon arraignment, Deputy District Attorney Mary Naoom alleged a mallet was used in the killing.In entering his plea, Lopez told San Diego County Superior Court Judge Peter Deddeh, `"`I'm innocent."Lopez was ordered held on million bail and a bail review hearing was set next week in his case.Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact SDPD’s Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. 1643

The report by GOBankRates lists San Diego as one of the 15 worst placed to buy a home in the country. The site says home prices in San Diego have increased by 1.8 percent over the last year. In the last five years, home values have grown by a little more than 33 percent. “The populous city of San Diego may be home to over 1.3 million people, but home values grow slower than some of the smaller, neighboring cities. San Diego only saw home values increase at a rate of 1.8% over the past year,” the site says. A better option, the website says, is National City, where home values have increased over the last five years by more than 49 percent. “National City offers a smaller footprint for a better value. The median home value is an impressive 5,500, which is almost 0,000 cheaper than San Diego.”If you are considering buying in San Diego, there are options. A new housing development is going up in Otay Mesa geared toward first-time buyers. There's also hope for teachers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new report is looking into why there is a shortage of homes for sale around the country. According to the report by NerdWallet, in October of 2017, the US had a 3.9-month supply of existing homes for resale, meaning at that pace, it would have taken 3.9 months to sell all the homes on the market. According to NerdWallet, a supply under six months places home buyers at a disadvantage. The report identifies six reasons why the housing supply is so low. 1. Boomers aren’t movingOver three-fourths of baby boomers own their own homes, according to the report, meaning millennials don’t have enough homes available to buy. The report also found that rising home prices force baby boomers to stay put because they don’t have the cash to downsize. RELATED: California gas tax set to increase July 12. Landlords won’t sellNerdWallet says millions of single-family homes were converted to rentals after the foreclosure crisis. In 2017, renters made up 36 percent of households. A greater demand for homes coupled with less supply means values rise while rents are rising faster than home prices. 3. Low mortgage rates The report points out that interest rates on outstanding mortgages averaged about 3.8 percent over the last three years. As mortgage rates rise, fewer people are interested in selling and getting into new mortgages. 4. Entry-level homes ignored by buildersIn the first nine months of 2017, nearly 500,000 newly-built homes were sold of which 55 percent sold for 0,000 or more. The report says those officials are only responding to constituents who want a limit on the number of homes that can be built in a neighborhood. Elected officials can also set a minimum square footage for homes, further limiting supply. “There are regulations that are more about the neighbors’ sensibilities than they are about the safety of the people living in the houses,” says Miriam Axel-Lute, associate director of the National Housing Institute. “It’s neighbors who want their property values to go up, in most cases, who are insistent upon some excess safety design standards or minimum lot sizes or other things,” Lute says. “They either want their property values to go up or they don’t want, quote, ‘the wrong sort of people’ in their neighborhoods.
