Hurricane Delta once again became a major hurricane on Thursday, with top winds of 120 mph as of 10 p.m. CT. The hurricane has regained much of the fury it lost crossing the Yucatan Peninsula on Wednesday. In an update Thursday morning, the NHC said that Delta is expected to "grow in size" throughout the day on Thursday before bringing dangerous conditions to the Gulf Coast early Friday morning.Storm surge and hurricane warnings are already in effect for parts of the Gulf Coast, particularly along the Louisiana shoreline.Louisiana cities likely to see damaging winds from the hurricane include Alexandria, Lafayette, New Iberia, and Morgan City, according to the National Hurricane Center. On Thursday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Hunters found that Delta had a 30-mile wide eye. Government hurricane forecasters say they expect Delta to continue strengthening until early Friday morning, but then begin to weaken as strong shear is expected to affect the hurricane. Louisiana has taken the brunt of the impact of the 2020 hurricane season. Hurricanes Marco and Laura have already made landfall in the state, causing inland flooding and significant damage along the coast. Hurricane Sally also did significant damage nearby Gulf Shores, Alabama, when it made landfall in September. The Associated Press reports that Delta marks the sixth time this year that evacuations have been ordered from Louisiana's barrier islands.Delta luckily spared two Mexican resort towns, Cancún and Playa del Carmen, from deaths or major damage after the storm made landfall on the Yucatan Peninsula, CNN reports. 1632

In a since-deleted tweet, Roseanne Barr blamed the sleep drug ambien for the racist tweets that eventually got her popular television show canceled."guys I did something unforgiveable (sic) so do not defend me. It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting-it was memorial day too-i went 2 far & do not want it defeneded-it was egregious Indefensible. I made a mistake I wish I hadn't but...don't defend it please. ty," Barr tweeted Tuesday evening.Throughout the evening on Tuesday, Barr posted multiple times on Twitter — despite promising to leave the platform earlier in the day after her first controversial tweet. "hey guys, don't defend me, it's sweet of you 2 try, but...losing my show is 0 compared 2 being labelled a racist over one tweet-that I regret even more," Barr tweeted around midnight on Tuesday. She also thanked her supporters before logging off early Wednesday morning.Barr retweeted 38 tweets on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning — including news stories, commentary, and a few tweets promoting right-wing conspiracy theories. Her tweets came hours after she said she was "leaving Twitter" when the controversy broke Tuesday morning. The fallout comes as networks continue to distance themselves from the comedienne. Viacom networks will no longer air reruns of the program, as well as the Laff Network (note: The E.W. Scripps company, the owner of this station, also owns the Laff Network).Las Vegas venues are also distancing themselves from Barr. On May 5, she had performed at a Orleans Casino. But Tuesday, Boyd Gaming Scripps station KTNV in Las Vegas that they have no existing agreements for any more shows with Barr at any of their properties in future.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. How much do politicians and Super PACs value Facebook ahead of the 2018 midterms? In some cases, hundreds of millions of dollars.Facebook this week published its political ad archive report, which tracks every political ad bought on the platform between May 1 and Oct. 20, 2018. The social media platform reports that more than 1.5 million political ads were purchased during that time for a total of more than 0 million.President Donald Trump spent nearly million on Facebook ads during that span. The ads purchased were split between Trump's 2020 campaign and the Trump Make America Great Again Committee — a joint fundraising committee between Trump's campaign committee and the RNC.But even Trump was outspent by Texas Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke. The Democrat spent .3 million on Facebook between May and October. By comparison, O'Rourke's opponent Ted Cruz spent about 0,000 on Facebook during that same time period. It's no secret that O'Rourke has relied heavily on social media in his push to turn Texas blue. Over the summer, he got a bump from a viral video that showed him explaining why he supports NFL players kneeling for the national anthem. One version of the video has been viewed 46 million times.Despite O'Rourke's heavy spending, ABC News' FiveThirtyEight still gives Cruz an edge in the polls with a 7 in 9 chance that he is re-elected.Though she is not up for re-election this fall, California Sen. Kamala Harris was also among the politicians that spent big on Facebook, buying nearly 17,000 ads for more than million. Harris is rumored to be eying a run for President in 2020.JB Pritzker, a Chicago businessman who is running for governor of Illinois as a Democrat, spent nearly million on Facebook. FiveThirtyEight gives him an 11 in 12 chance of being elected governor. ExxonMobil, the oil and gas giant, spent the most on political Facebook ads among corporations in 2018, pouring nearly million into 1,700 ads. A search through Facebook's archives shows most of the company's most recent ads oppose Colorado Proposition 112 — a proposition that, if passed, would require oil and gas developments to be at least 2,500 feet from occupied buildings, parks, creeks, and other "vulnerable areas." Oil companies have argued the restrictions would make fracking and oil extraction in Colorado too difficult and expensive. Finally, despite calls for President Donald Trump's impeachment from some Democrats in the face of the Mueller investigation, Congressional leadership on the left has largely chosen not to campaign on the promise of impeachment. But that hasn't stopped wealthy Democratic activists from campaigning for impeachment on their own.Tom Steyer, a longtime Democratic donor ran nearly 6,000 ads on his page paid for by "Need to Impeach", a pro-impeachment fund started by Steyer. The fund is not affiliated with any Democratic candidates. Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. Scripps National Desk. Follow him on Twitter @alexhider. 3028

Idaho Fish and Game Commissioner Blake Fischer has resigned after giving an account of a hunting trip to Africa. In the middle of September, Fischer sent an email to more than 100 friends and colleagues recapping his recent hunting trip to Namibia.Along with the email, obtained by CNN, Fischer attached 12 pictures of himself and his wife standing over various kills: an oryx, a giraffe, a waterbuck, a leopard and, perhaps most notably, a group of four dead baboons. He boasted about using the baboon kills to introduce his wife to African game hunting. 561

If flying is one of your fears, you're not alone. One class has been helping people overcome the fear for decades, by debunking some of the concerns keeping you on the ground."The plane just dropped suddenly," one woman remembers."We actually went up in an airplane and found out afterwards we had gone up in a hurricane," another woman recalls."What really scares me is somebody blowing something up on purpose," one traveler says."I actually thought I was going to die, says another traveler."It's led to some odd routines. "I have to like touch all four sides of the door on the way in and you know with the seats," says one passenger. "And count to 100 during take off."It has almost led do some missed opportunities."I thought ok I'll just never fly again I'm old I don't care," one woman says. "But my daughter is going to college and I want to go with her."That's why these people have decided to not only share but face their fears in this Fear of Flying Clinic. Students learn it's not the fear that's the problem but the way they think about it. And once that changes so does the fear."It's not easy to do because you do have a whole set up of automatic beliefs that are causing you trouble," says one of the class instructors. That's why debunking students' biggest fears is so important."I have some very disappointing news for you all about turbulence," says commercial pilot Captain Mark Connell. "We don't care. It doesn't make much difference to us."As scary as it might feel, Captain Connell compares a plane hitting turbulence to a car hitting a pothole. He covers everything from turbulence and weather, to pilot training and preparedness."There's something helpful about that to think to yourself well he flies planes all the time and he's not scared so I probably shouldn't be scared either," says Mimi Kravetz.Kravetz has been scared of flying since she was 10."When there's turbulence on an airplane, my heart starts beating quicker. I feel really panicky. I can't focus. I can't sleep and I wanted to get out of that feeling," Kravetz says. Now she's ready to face her fear. "It'll be interesting on Monday to try and go in to see if I can replace my current set of thoughts with a set of new ones," Kravetz says. And get into the air with as much ease as the plane she's riding in.      2351
